Finally Getting a New System going in my new ride!

Well, as you may or may not remember, i had an old 92 Ford Taurus SHO that I abused with various systems of varying intensity, from a single ten to a couple 12's all the way up to a ported 4-10" setup that took up all of my passenger and cargo space.

That car has since passed on to a better place, and I picked up a 2002 Chrysler Concorde Limited for a fairly nice price:

I’ve experimented with a lot of brands, sizes, power, ect in my systems, and the way i see it, I've sorta had my fun for now... so I'm going to go with a fairly modest system this time around. I've had excellent luck with Alpine as a brand, both in head units, and subs, so I’ve decided to go mostly alpine this time.

I managed to get about 800$ out of all the old stereo equipment i had laying around on Ebay, so i can get a fresh start. I've just about spent it all already on:

Alpine iDA-X305 HU

Alpine MRP-M500 Sub Amp

Alpine SWR-1242D 12" Sub

JBL GTO607C 6.5" components (I got a good deal on em... I don’t know how long I’ll keep em.)

I also purchased almost everything I need for the fiberglass/mdf sub box, as well as the amp rack.

Next on the list is a speaker amp, specifically the Alpine MRP-F300, for now I’ll use the factory infinity amp that came with my car.

I'm recycling some stuff, like my weldingsupply.com power cable, RCA's, Distro blocks, ect. So that will save me a little chunk change.

I plan on not taking up my entire trunk with the install this time, and making it look clean. You can track my progress in my log if you give a crap:

Not really sure what I’m looking for with this thread, i guess just letting people know what I’m up to and looking for opinions.

I can't believe that ford taurus is still running.
Ah. Never mind. I totally missed that one sentence -.-

Why the chrysler, though?...

Oh it still runs like a top, still one of the faster cars I've ever owned also. Its got other problems though, particularly the clutch (it lasted 89,000 miles), The wheel bearings, and the brakes, along with pretty much every interior trim peice being busted, dislodged or generally crappy.

Why the chrysler? like i said it was pretty cheap, looks pretty nice, rides nice, ect. I wouldnt have got it if it wasnt the limited, but the 3.5L engine in the limited isnt supposed to be half bad as far as longevity and reliablity, so i figured i'd go for it...

I'm guessing your an import man?

Mostly. Like the examples you gave with the ford... I've had bad experiences, and not seen good ratings on a lot of the domestic cars - particularly brands like chrysler. I'll say newer models, most particularly, '05 and up, are improving a lot, but still, nothing beats a good 'ole Toyota, Honda, or Nissan, imo. I drive an Infiniti G20, '96. Only problems are ones I've created myself... :p

Chrysler has a nice sized list of what cars are terrible on reliability - but I don't know about the specific model you have.

Nice sized engine at least, how much was the car? I'm guessing with the 3.5L, about 190-200 horse? And keep the install clean. I screwed up my installs the first few times, rushing them, in my first Honda Accord (had an extension cord running through the middle of the car to the trunk o_O), and while it's better in my infiniti, I still have yet to get the seat belts back out, as they got stuck under the seats when I pulled them out and put them back in -.-

Car was 4 grand out the door.

I looked at a lot of reviews and stuff before i pulled the trigger on it, and they seem to be fairly decent cars, I'll cross my fingers and hope i guess.

Its got 250 horsepower, but i definitely would not say its speedy really, its just a cruiser, but you can get going 90-100 on the freeway and not even know it. Awesome road trip car.

A land yacht compared to the SHO though... that thing was pretty quick.

Ah, much more output than I thought. If you checked out reviews and all that, then good for you, I know a lot people who buy a car without checking it out much. That tells you a lot about it ^^

I'm guessing weight probably keeps it from really going. A bit on the heavy side, methinks. 4 grand isn't too bad though, especially for an '02 car. You won't find much of that year for that low a price. Nothing wrong with it, I assume?

Really don't know too much about chrylers. The 04's and up on American cars are great quality. I agree with import cars beening of better quality, but I hate imports. Can't stand working on them. But looking forward to the build.

Checked consumer reports. No, '04 and up are not great quality -.- The only decent reliability ratings I see are on the '07 PT Cruiser, '07-'08 300's, and the '08 Pacifica. Rest are average, or quite below average. In quite a few cases, WAY below average.

The one I have (I can't find my older books - but I'll let you know if I do) only reports down to '03 models, and the '03 Sebring has trouble spots in the Engine Cooling, climate system, suspension, and a few problems in the brakes and minor transmission things. Watch those foremost - with good upkeep, any car can last, but still. Won't hurt to watch things.
