Atm, I have a POS 1995 Saturn SL. Bought it stupidly for 2800 about a year ago and put at least another grand into it. About a week after having it, found out that the transmission was going out. So i've been driving it for a year with transmission problems. When I first got it, it needed new motor mounts. I put tint, new brakes and a new alt in it. Saved up about a grand and the mother is putting down four grand for an eight grand loan 4 year term. Getting a 09 civic 5 speed( not dealing with that auto transmission sh1t anymore) for about 12 grand. Gonna be picking it up maybe this week. Just wanted to announce it. Build will be coming in the summer most likely.

Reason I bought the Saturn mainly was becuase it had 60k miles on it. But the owners never drove the **** thing or maintained it so it sat and rusted away.

So you're paying 12k for a 3 year old car that originally sold for 16k? Sounds to me like you are over paying again. My gf has an 06 civic coupe and its had 2 bottom end engine rebuilds under warranty. They are decent cars and people claim they are reliable but have failed to see this. My whole family is in need of new/er cars and we have been looking hard for the past month- used car prices right now are terrible. The only thing you're going to get is something with high miles thats been beat on, or something with real low miles thats only a few grand less than what it sold for new. According to Consumer Reports, there is a nationwide shortage of 08 to present day used cars right now. My buddy with an 09 GTI is getting letters from the dealer asking to buy it back, at this point in his loan, hes $2500 on top so hes looking at trading it in for a new Subaru BRZ.

My advice for getting something now is to get a short term lease, one of those specials for under ~$200/mo. Be aware you will have to put something down up front. But the benefit of the lease is you dont have to worry about maintenance and depreciation, plus if you like it enough you can usually buy it out when the lease is up. As a high schooler, you probably don't drive much so that will help keep you under the mileage limits.

This car isn't on craigslist owned by some idiot. This is at a certified honda dealership. And i'm going to college this summer/fall so I need something that is reliable and will last. Not sure where you are but civics last a eternity down here. My family has had them and have never had problems with them.

Civics last up here too, but the newer ones after the redesign in 06 have gone down hill from what I have heard. The most recent Civic has been softened and cheapened and is doing terrible right now. The only Civics I personally would get are the 05s and older.

Good luck with what you're getting, hopefully there wont be any problems with it.

I was talking more about using high quality oils and fluids. I run Royal Purple in all of my cars I care about. It will seem like it's wearing more at first oil change, but it is flushing out what your old oil left behind.

edit: Amsoil is another great oil but isn't cheap.

What do you mean it will seem like it's wearing more?

it flushes out the metal shavings, you won't tell unless you test your oil. You always have wear inside of your motor it is just on a very small amount. I have seen tons of people that use conventional oil switch to a high quality synthetic, test for the amount of metal. Then they see it's more so they assume it's the oil wearing more instead of flushing it out into the pan.

Meh, still sounds like you're over-paying for this car too, even if it's certified from the dealership. I found better deals when I was looking around. And They felt and looked extremely cheap to me when I drove it around.
That's just me though, more importantly, I hope this one treats you right! And you better be changing your username from @95saturn to @09honda
