so ive been trying my best to come up with a nice starter system and everyone says i should go with alpine get the type r's.... well i wanted a dual setup buy i found out one type r could blow away two type e or s by miles. so i think i finally decided to go with one r in my firebird. now people who are experienced with these subs, should i stay sealed or go ported with these.. and is it bad to put around 600-900rms on these. i have seen other videos where they push it with 1400-1600rms when its only rated at 1500peak. these must be insane!!

i would go ported for sure on an R, but thats just me. And i dont know from experience, but i have heard tons of people running 600-900 wrms on R's and being fine. I have heard one or two in my day, and in the right box and setup, they really dont sound bad and get hella loud

ok so im about to order one right now, found one for $127 with free shipping. im getting the DVC 4ohm one so would a 600wrms amp at 2ohms be good?? im new so if i am correct a single DVC 4ohm sub has a load of 2ohms. any suggestions for a ported box that will fit inside an 01 firebird??

ok so ive got a very quick decision to make.... my dad said he will only order withing the next ten mintues(hes impatient) and i know putting a sony class d amp isnt the best quality for this sub... so instead i can get an alpine MRP-M500 class d amp. is it worth it to get the better quality amp but give up some wattage?? its still 500 rms at 2 ohms, which is the rms rating for the sub... but the sub can take so much more. should i go with this amp since im on a budget right now and upgrade later or go for the higher wattage amp???

well final orders have been made i got the Alpine SWR-1242D 12" Type-R Series Subwoofer with the Alpine MRP-M500 Class D 500 Watt Amplifier. cant wait to get the order in and set it up.

i didnt read through all the posts, but is it a 12 or 10 or 15 or what?

from personal experience, a 12" type R likes right around 2-2.5cu ft net (preferrably closer to 2.5) tuned around 34hz. I had best results with the 15" in 4cu ft @ 33hz (i didnt try higher tuning though). As for firing direction, i have no idea.

The 12's liked right around 700RMS without sounding too messy. I gave the 15's 1000RMS a piece and took it like it was nothing.

oh, and i would definately not seal a type-R

Type R's can get decently loud, even if only given 500rms.

Go with a 2.5cuft ported box. Either build one yourself or find someone on here to build one for you.

yeah im smiling ear to ear right now!! feels great. does anyone know of a ported enclosure that goes good with the type r that will fit in my firebird, im kinda limited in space since i have a hatchback.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ya, definitly dont go sealed with an R. My systems pretty loud for being sealed, but I'm also giving each of them 900rms. It's all good though, I'm having my new PORTED box built as we speak.

yes you sure can, i just put a 12 type r in today it was a 1222 but the wiring is the same, i went to 1 ohm put it in a 1.75 cube box at about 35hz and it gets pretty loud, gotta wait 4 a short breakin til it really gets some juice though
