Fiberglassing a 4-Din console in a 2001 Nissan Maxima

i meant, get an ABS kit, and cut the din-size out so the alpine cage would fit perftectly - and then cut the kit up, and use the plastic bonding stuff to put it where it needed to go. then cut out the monitor hole from the stock panel, and build a monitor mount with ABS and that glue. then fill all the gaps and ugly spots on the front with the ABS filler from hzemall. i think it might have saved you ALOT of time, and it would be much sturdier.

i hope it stays together. but it looks sweet so far.

that does sound much easier, but it still looks AMAZING!

Next time, I would glue the alpine trim ring into the hole you cut. Then you are guaranteed a perfect gap around the unit and no problems with the motorization. It looks good though. Hopefully now people will understand why shops charge alot to do this type of work. I would have prolly 2-3 full days in it at the shop. $750 plus materials. So you saved alot and got the experience.

Ok, so here's where we're at: much to my suregrin, the peice started cracking around the climate control so I had to sand out the trim, and fill it back up with a 3M Rigid Two-Parts Plastic Repair Epoxy. After a ton of sanding, we're ready to prime!

Here's how she looks primed...

Hrrrm, but we still have these annoying little pits to fill!

So, here's what I hope will be my FINAL filling step...

With any luck, I will be able to sand this on monday, and GIT-R-DONE!!!

Most likely spot puddy. Which is made to fill in pin-holes left from air in the body filler.

lookin good man. I'm going to be doing something similar. I'm mounting a 7" touchscreen monitor where the old cd player was and not having a headunit at all. Then im gonna fiberglass the climate controls where the sunglasses holder is above the rear view mirror. Should be fun. I'll take some pics

Well, you can chalk it up to a stupid thread I posted when I was tired as HELL from deadening the trunk. The one dude was asking about how to get into his Max in which he locked his keys. Then I made a thread about how to use your cell phone and another keyfob to get in your car - little did I know this had been reposted like whoa, and E55AMG banned me for a week. I had my reservations about posting this, and almost searched before I posted it - but I didn't. Hey, Nilesh! Will do, brotha...I will it you up when I get home from work today. I need pics of a 6.5" speaker with an MDF ring mounted in the rear and front door, as well as a picture of an aftermarket tweeter mounted in the OEM position. Thanks, man!!!
