Fiberglassing a 4-Din console in a 2001 Nissan Maxima

Ok, SO...nothing fun today. As with any project, I ran into a set back on this one. Whe I poured the resin on the peice, I didn't add enough MEKP, and, after 24 hours, the mix never cured! You can kind of see where the resin separated from the body filler (poor mixing, too) in the peice. It was plenty hard, but the surface was all sticky. Plus, there were some holes left too. Ugh

As you can see here, it cured for the most part...heh-heh. These brickers are QUITE fused.

So, after a trip to Pep Boys for some more body filler and HD for some more resin, it's time for a second pour. I used more MEKP than I needed, and made sure it was thoroughly mixed. This second pour turned out even better than the first! The peice is almost completley level now.

Alright, I took a little nap around 3 today and fortunatley it gave me the energy I was looking for! I spent the day fit-testing and sanding the peice. So far the 60-grit phase is done, hopefully tommorow or Friday I can move through the 200, 500, and 1000 phases. Here is a pic of how the current console lines up with the air vents...it's ALOT harder to do than I thought!

We might have some work to do on this end...

In spite of being bogged down with 12-hour shifts, I managed to get some work done on this thing. I first sanded the whole unit down with the typical 60, 150, 220, 500, and 800-grit papers to give it a baby-smooth finish. I also filled in all the holes and leveled all of the transistion lines with body filler and glazing putty. Don't mind how it looks at the top, if you look close enough yoiu can see the black fleece underneath.

The I cut the climate control face and made the cutout for the unit. The picture is a little off-center, so the unit does not appear fully lined up, but in reality, it's pretty darn close, although not perfect. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I had to starts taking pictures inside since the camera lens fogs up not 0.01 seconds after I walked ouitside.

That looks great, but what would you do if you messed up? Any ideas on how much a peice like (the stock peice from the car) that would cost?
