fiberglass questions

I started and got quite a bit done on my first fiberglass enclosure today. It's actually a center console, part MDF part fiberglass, housing a 12w7. It's 2.5ft^3 tuned to 35Hz, with two 4" ports.

I got the entire top and bottom fiberglassed. It's a little more than a quarter of an inch thick(like maybe 5/16" of an inch thick). Is this gonna be thick enough, or should I throw on a couple more layers? It seems fairly thick to me, I'm just not sure how it'll hold up to the pressure it'll be taking.

i had 6 layers put on mine...how many layers is = to 5/16 of an inch?

i'd guess right around 6-7

Do the stand test.

Stand on it, if it flexes put on more, if it doesnt then you are fine.

it passed the stand test with my mom and i; thats about 275 lbs; the box is prolly 40% FG

There's more factors than just the number of layers. Most sub enclosures I build are only three layers, but I use woven 15-17oz. biaxial mat. Three layers and you can park a car on it. i wasn't even aware that chop mat came in that size oz, now fiberglass cloth which is woven does though
