I am making some kicks for my car and they are way thinner than I think they should be.

I put on 3 layers for the mold and it is still see through and flexible. I see other peoples and they are very thick and opaque.

I am using Elmer's resin and mat. Is this the wrong stuff? Need way more layers?

its gonna be somewhat transparent, but it shouldnt flex.
use more.
I didn't think they should flex, that can't be good for output.

Is there anything cheaper/better than the elmer's mat. I'm gonna have to buy a lot of this stuff to really make it thick.

the THUMB test has been brought up many times... push on it with your thumb and if it flexes... more matt is needed. Course, this is a kick panel, so you just want to make sure it wont collapse under moderate pressure.
