Fi Q mounting ideas.

Well I'm pretty well decided on buying a Fi Q for better sound quality, it'll sure beat the hell out of my current audiobahn lol...

Anyway, I drive an Oldsmobile Intrigue, which is a big 4-Door sedan. I have 80 sqaure feet of sound deadening on the way and new components.

Basically I'm just wondering what you guys think the best idea for mounting this thing would be for sound quality. Currently I have a ported box with the sub and port firing to the back. I was thinking with the Fi Q of inverting it in a smaller sealed box, facing it to the front and down, sort of at a 45 degree angle. I could face it to the back like I have currently, but I'm not sure it would be very loud since it'll be sealed now instead of ported. If I fold the seats down I get a huge volume increase, but I don't like driving around like that....

So, what do you guys think a good route would be? Keep in mind I'm going for sound quality, but I still want it to be plenty loud, in a sealed fiberglass box.

Any opinions/comments/suggestions?

For aesthetics I think firing it toward the back, up at a 45 degree angle would look the best, with a nice fiberglassed box, but I see a lot of SQ cars firing their subs down, inverted. Is there a reason for this? Has anybody had any experience with a big 4-door sedan with a sealed woofer in the trunk, what was the best?

I have my 12" Q rear firing with the sub and port facing back.

I had it sealed doing the same, and it's amazing how much better/louder it is in the ported box.

I say you go ported, and I also say you rear fire. That's just my $0.02. Good luck man.

x2

i';d feel like i was missing out on alot of output being sealed. plus if you do decide on sealed, the direction you face it isnt going to be real noticeable voume wise

So I'd want to tune it to probably high 20s for SQ right? It would probably need a pretty sizable box for that. Would it really be that much louder than sealed?

My box is 2.5 cubes tuned to 28hz. Pretty large for a single 12. But I'm telling you, it's a night and day difference between sealed and ported.

My single 12 sounds like I have at least a couple 12's in my trunk with 1000wrms. The dash can jump up and down....lows are sickening, and they were not with the sealed box.

I haven't bought one yet, I just plan on getting one very soon. Once I get an amp lined up then I'll decide what size and what resistance I need.

It'll be getting 1000W RMS (or a bit more maybe) for sure.

A single 10 in a ~1.5ft^3 box tuned to about 28 would have decent output and good SQ?

So now the question is....sub and port firing back? Remeber it's a trunk car, seats can fold down, but I prefer to leave them up.

I have a Acura CL coupe with armrest pass through only. The 12 [rear firing]as stated, sounds amazing in there.

You would be VERY impressed at how awesome and loud that single 10 will sound.
