The FI Q xmax is 27mm Thats about 1.07 inches, if he got 2 inches out of it, or even close to 2 inches thats alot more than he paid for

1) Xmax is not max excursion.

2) It's rated one way so that's about 2" of xmax with probably close to 3" peak to peak full excursion.

First off, it took 10k for a short period of time, just before the cone detached. It wasnt' going to live long enough to really test it with 10k, it failed mechanically pretty fast I'd imagine. Secondly, they could have been right on top of an impedence spike, 10k at 40 ohms anyone? Third, in a ported box you'll never see never see full output hardly ever, that's the ENTIRE point point of a ported box! That's why you let the ****ing enclosure do the work for you. A quick model will show you that getting full output at certain frequencies in a ported enclosure requires WAYYY to much power to be reaistic. Increasing excursion by adding power to a ported box adds a good chance to have the sub unload on you, without a huge audible benefit, especially for daily. If you call a 1000 watts of power "small", a SQ oriented sub probably isn't for you, in which case you DO have a different goal for your system than the thread starter did, since he wasn't looking for a 1 note wonder, and was pleased that it blended with his fronstage.

Also the driver failed mechanichally because we were playing about 15 hz below tuning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ( which is outside of the impedence spike ) and were slamming the cone into the basket... it didnt detach.. it broke the tinsel leads and if they were resoldered it wouldve still played fine.

Im definately not done playing with this badboy! I will try it sealed in a 1.78cuft before sub disp. and also in a 1.2cuft sealed and let you guys know how she sounds.

The lowend is there, no doubt about that. Im sure I can bring out more lowend with a lower tuned enclosure. The Q gets loud, but not crazy loud.

In the same enclosure, and using the same amp, My 12" HC hybrid gets pretty darn loud and very LOW. But you just cant comapare it to the Q's sq.

The Q is not a low-end moster, but they are there.

why don't you run the rubber seal ring on the sub you might be getting air leaks. Or did you seal it with something else. Also my Q15 kills my ears and sounds good i think its more sql but that depends on the install.

Hey Focus, not to jack the thread or anything, but what would be a good ported box for a Q15? My main goal was SQ with a little bit of SPL. Maybe a 3.5cuft tuned to 28?

Tune higher. More like 32hz, the driver likes the higher range for sure
