Well in my ever ending quest to find the best sub for my setup I ordered a 12" Fi Q D2. Best buying experience evAr! I recieved the package exactly a week after placing my order. The subwoofer comes in a very neatly and snugly packed cardboard box with foam inserts around the trim ring for protection during shipping. The motor is also protected with more foam secured with cardbored. As soon as I opened the box.... The smell of new woofer entoxicated me with the aroma!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif The subwoofer is very elegant but at the same time appears solid. The first thing that caught my eye is the VC. The windings appear to be of a very heavy gauge.
I will be running this sub via the fifth channel of a memphis belle(1100W rms at 1 ohm). My headunit is an Alpine CDA-7998. Xover at 80hz 12db slope. I will be using the same enclosure in which my 12" RE HC hybrid was installed in, 2.5cuft tuned to 32hz with 32.5sq in. of port. My vehicle is a 2001 GMC yukon. The whole truck is deadend with Dynamat Xtream. The enclosure is placed in the Left side of the cargo area about 12" from the rear hatch. Subwoofer and port on the same side of the enclosure.
For the first 3 days I played the sub gently in order for it to break in properly, About 8 hours of play time total. So far I have heard this sub reproduce everything from rap to orchestra, Rock to jazz. This subwoofer reproduces everything exactly the way it was meant to be reproduced. It blends in perfectly with my front stage. Every song I played left me at awe. Being that the enclosure is tuned to 32hz, The output is very flat. No boominess or over exaggeration of any bassline. With percussion songs, such as in live bands, It hits the notes tight and very fast. All in a nut shell, this subwoofer will reproduce anything and everything that you throw at it without it busting a sweat.
Some songs that blew me away was a track called "live band" featured in the EMNB cd. This track features bass kicks that move from far left to far right of the soundstage. This blew me away because when the kicks hit you can literally picture the kicks moving from left to right with no localization to the rear.
My conclusion is that this sub is by far the best SQ sub that I have heard. But that is were it ends. IMHO this is a SQ driver not a SQL. Compared to my previous subs SE's, XXX, and my recent HC hybrid which in my book are great SQL drivers, the Q is lacking in output and just a bit in lowend extension. Dont get me wrong, it reprdoces tones all the way down to 20hz, but a bit quietly. I just wish that this sub was more efficient and had greater output. But in the car audio world you just cant have both....
Some songs that I enjoyed playing with this subwoofer are...
Mana - Coladito
EMNB - Disc 4 - Live band
Vid (description says tuned to 25hz, buts its 32hz) http://www.realmofexcursion.com/videos/FiCarAudio/q12.1.wmv
