theres no electrical connection between the metal of the basket and the voice coil, so u wouldnt fry it. but u will fry the surround trying to weld while it is assembled

it would definately have to be disassembled. the basket heating up alone would melt the entire surround and possibly warp the cone, and intense heat would probably disfigure the basket. and after all the trouble, money, and time youd have in it, itd be easier and cheaper to buy a new basket from RE or Fi or somewhere and reassemble it yourself.

is it worth fighting for the $400

The sub cost 325$ shipped and its an 18" re mt with a brand new recone... would it be worth gettin an extra 75$ ? I got the sub cheap as it is..

If anything i would try to go with a Fi btl perhaps or DD.

I think even a touch of jb weld would do the job though .

Fedex had to throw this ***** around pretty bad.

Anybody shipping a product has to assume that the box will get thrown or dropped or kicked, and pack accordingly. If you pack expecting that to happen you will most likely never have a problem.

Its a heavy *** sub man, just a crate isn't going to do it. Maybe a crate with padding between the speaker and crate so any impacts aren't transferred directly to the sub/basket and crack it. Maybe some double walled cardboard for the box appropriately sized too so the plywood doesn't try to rip through it.

Shipping a heavy sub, especially something as big/awkward as an 18 is pretty much a gamble no matter how you do it.

yea, another example of how crates arent always the best idea

it should've looked more like this one i made for a blueprint 1203, and i could've made it much better:

pretty much all the subs iver owned have been rebuildable, but ive never done a recone so i really have no right to talk on the subject

BUT im pretty sure as long as you disassemble it carefully and dont rub/scratch the coils and whatnot and everything stays in tact i believe everything is fine to disassemble/reassemble

Yup, with foam in there (especially even more) the impact of a drop is lessoned and won't want to snap those 12 spoke baskets.

Gettin the spider, dustcap, and surround off clean would **** balls if you could even accomplish it. It would be worth ordering a new recone to not have to even try that.

File a claim, get a recone and basket, come out ahead. Call the seller names for the packaging.
