Factory VW radio will not come out, anyone?

2002 VW Passat. Factory double din will not come out. I used all 4 radio removal keys to try and get it out but no luck, it won't budge and the keys won't even lock in place. Anyone ever have this happen or know of any other way to get the thing out?

keep at it. also when you make progress on a side wedge a flathead in so it doesnt fall back in place

I've been at it for almost 2hrs now and it hasn't budged. even tried pushing from behind, nothing

try the top first then when its unlatched try the bottom with flatheads in the side. thats how i got one out of a jetta

Yeah i've tried them both directions now no luck. won't lock into the keys, i think someone tried getting behind there before for whatever reason.

I had to go to best buy and they took it out but they had tools and it took five minutes.

Try one side at a time. Thats what they did.

i'm trying the same exact thing on my 2002 gti. Disassembled the whole center panel, stil the fcuking thing doesn't move. loosing my patience here. tried all kinds of stuff. At one point I was able to pull left side out but then let it go and it fell back into previous position. Hey let me know if you get it out and how

Also the flat side of a key has to face outside, correct?

Oh my bad they just pulled one side out at a time. Held one side out then pried the other out. Not sure how, I didnt do it, just observed.
