Factory stereo help!

Ok, I decided to change out the Factory HU in my 2004 Ford Ranger, with an aftermarket stereo. I pulled it out, and like an idiot, cut out the factory harness. When I realized I could have just bought an adapter, I wired the harness back in. Then I decided to just leave the factory hu in there for now, but when I plugged it back in, everything worked except for the volume. I have tried everything, and there is no sound. I re-checked the wiring, but it is all right....any ideas?

did you hear any sparks when you cut it? If you were cutting a power wire, and your knife became grounded, you *could* have blown a fuse, or something like that. Just throw an aftermarket one in there!!!

Nah, no sparks...used wire cutters, checked the fuse, it is good... I am going to put a aftermarket int there, but decided to wait until I could afford the one I want, so I need the factory back in for now. I am out of ideas...Ford wouldn't have put some kind of code on it, to keep it from playing if it was disconnected, would they?
