Factory Headunit replacement

Hey guys! Im tryin to help my brother put a sysem into his 98 taurus and the stupid thing has its headunit and heater controlls all in one. Has anyone had or seen any success with this kind of setup? I know I'm probably screwed but i thought I would try anyways. I dont want to use high level inputs, but will if I have to.
