f*ckin auto shops.

i am loading up my volkswagen all data disc....i will look up how to r&r an alt on that car.

if i think its a fair quote after i see how volkswagen says to r&r it, then you're a cunt.

if i think its not a fair quote, then im the cunt.

deal?

according to all data there are no instructions from VW on how to do it, but they say one way is to remove the "lock carrier" which appears to be the bumper...

they also say you can remove a motor mount to get to it underneath...

regardless, i cant really say who is the cunt here, since its pretty inconclusive.

can you read? have you looked at my build log?
Once more. I know how to install an alternator. i do not have time to install it, nor do i want to go buy jackstands.
so you don't have half an hour to install an alternator? I doubt missing one class this early in the semester is going to kill you.

And you don't want to buy jackstands, which you can use again whenever you need to, but you're willing to spend $700 for the shop to do install it when you're just going to sell the car anyway? Yeah, that makes sense.

Ive done an alty install before hah. Its not the labor that im worried about.
And taking a day off from my classes really wouldnt be a good idea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I'm not too worried about it. My girlfriends great uncle pays for most of her stuff (huge trust fund for college stuff i think), and i believe he is going to cover it for us.
Let's do the math.

Let's assume you're taking 5 classes, which I believe is the average maximum.

Now, you could have all classes in two days (like me), but that leaves 3 days open...

Or you can have them on 3 days... which leaves 2 open. (not including weekends)

Or you can have one each day, or a 3-2 staggered schedule.

Even still, that's a maximum of 3 hours a day.

That's 12% of your day... given an average person will sleep 8-10 hours, that's still 11 hours to fix your girlfriend's alternator.

Stop making excuses.

bingo. i don't understand why you're complaining about it, when there have been 30 people telling you how easy, fast, and inexpensive it is to do it your self.

just do it between classes; start on it, go to class, then finish it; have your friends help you or something. there is no way that costs anywhere remotely near 700 dollars. get the parts, do it your self. they have a warranty, if you buy them new or off their website.

don't complain if you dont want to do it yourself. everyone knows how *most* auto shops are ridiculously overpriced. / thread

ok, heres what you do. Tell the rich uncle your getting it done at the shop. Get the $900 off him. Now go buy a case of beverage, grab a few of your slacker buddies and install a new alt.

Use the extra cash left over to take your girl out to dinner.

Everybody wins.

Yes we have all failed. I am hanging my head in shame...WSW.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

To the OP, If I could change the alt. on my 300zx, you could change it on a Jetta. You can even buy some jackstands and a jack for about $30
