If you have any extra wood, make your own stand. It's EZ as pie, and they last for a long time. Just stack them up so they make stairs, but glue them together.swapping the alternator is the easy part. The issue with her car is the easiest way to access the alternator is by underneath it. I dont have jackstands, or anything else ot lift the car with, and i dont have time ot deal with it right now.
I went and tried talking them down for about 30 minutes, but they obviously knew exactly what they were doing. Only shop around that works on imports.
im talking in terms of their work. They wont warranty their work unless they order the parts.Um, the car is 9 years old. It's got no warranty to speak of.
Wrong!! The warranty is not void due to aftermarket parts. The shop will not warranty the part, but the warranty for the car is unaffected. They must warranty their labor, however. The part will carry its own warranty redeemable at the place of purchase. If i was to buy my own alternator, all warranty whatnot is void on the car, so thats out of the question.
guess its different out there. here mostly any shop will work on anything and everthing aslong as you pay up.And, believe it or not, it IS the only import shop in town.
I called some other shop in town, and the mechanic on the phone was like "I never dun worked on a jetta before, but i could prolly figure something out".....not going to that guy.
Whatever, im just gonna get it done and move on.

You forget he lives in Hicksville, where they only grow Steers and Queers, and the occasional Patton Manning. But, Gumby, **** it up, take a day off, and do it. Save the $750 bucks, man. I'm telling you, it's not worth it. It's so incredibly hard to fck up an alternator install.guess its different out there. here mostly any shop will work on anything and everthing aslong as you pay up.
they use a flat-rate book. its not like they are getting the 2.7 hours out of no where. plus its customer pay, they always tack on more time.you do not have to take the whole bumper off, i talked to the mechanic himself. I told him to look me in the eye and tell me that it would take him 2.7 hours to swap the alternator.
he looked away and said "probably about two", but they refused to change the quote.

Ive done an alty install before hah. Its not the labor that im worried about. You forget he lives in Hicksville, where they only grow Steers and Queers, and the occasional Patton Manning. can you read? have you looked at my build log?you really should do it yourself
do you not have friends that can help?
It will be a good learning experiance, even if you have to buy some tools
plus the GF will think your a stud...maybe
you mean it takes 30 minutes to do the alternator, and 2 hours for your *** to heal.Long story short, its gonna cost $750 to replace the alternator in my girlfriends car. I would do it, but i dont have time with school at the moment, and we want to get the car sold so we need to get it fixed.
They claim that the replacement 120amp alternator will cost them $400, that labor will be 2.7 hours, and that it will require $50 in extra supplies.
F*ckin bastards, its the only place in town that will work on imports //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif
