extra battery

i've got some general questions, sorry if i sound like a dumbass, i'm not an expert on car audio by any means, and just want to clear up certain things....

i plan on using an extra battery in my trunk to power my amplifier. i just want to make sure i've got everything correct w/ the setup.

1st. i have to ground the NEGATIVE of the battery wherever i would normally ground the amp?

2nd the POSITIVE on the battery doesn't have to be connected anywhere else does it, it just supplies power?

3rd when connecting the amplifier, i can connect the power to the POSITIVE as normal - can i ground the amplifier by connecting it to the NEGATIVE of the battery?

sorry if all these questions are stupid, and sorry if i answered them all myself, i just want to make sure i'm not getting anything wrong.

also if anyone has any better suggestions, or things i should know about when attempting this setup please let me know.

Thanks

That was my old set up.

Just run your + and - to the amp off the rear battery as well. not in picture.

thanks guys, what gauge wiring do you recommend between the batteries? i know i'm currently running 4 AWG from the main batter to a splitter between my amps, should i use larger gauge or does it really matter?

Page 8 is a better pic like he said but same as mine just better lolOnly thing missing in the pic below is that rear battery should be grounded.

Not to steal the thread but i have a question pertaining to this. Does this mean if the car battery is a different kind than the battery in the trunk, no isolator is required. I thought that they were necessary in this kind of situation.

No you really dont need a isolator unless you want to play your system while the car is not running.

Please forgive my ignorance.....but why do you need to run the ground from the front battery to the back one? Cant you just ground close to the rear battery and also just ground the amp? That way you only need to run the power wire between the batteries?

you don't Need to ground back to the front battery. its been debated whether it is necessary or not.
