External voltage regulator

Hey, I have an external voltage regulator for my new ho alternator. My question is, I need to wire the voltage regulator to the +12 ign relay and I have no clue how to get to it or anything like that. Would it be easier just to run the wire through the firewall and use the ign switch? I have a 99 ford ranger. thanks!

if the ignition relay is the same thing as the starter relay it is usually the first thing in line if you follow the (+) away from the battery. Mine is a cylindrical looking thing with two copper studs on top.

By your instructions it sounds like you need to connect to the stud closest to the battery.
