Extending factory wiring

I was going to do the big three on my 92 crown vic and when looking under the hood, the factory connections for the alt, starter, and fuse box look like they might be stretched a little too far.

I was planning on adding the 1/0 gauge to the factory wiring, NOT replacing it. I don't want to miss something that might be important and it seems like a better idea to leave it alone.

Now when I cut the wires off the stock battery terminal and strip them to fit into the new audiopipe one I got, I was thinking of soldering and shrink wraping them to standard car audio 4 or 8 ga that I have laying around.... whatever is the same size.

Now... my concern is that a high current draw (like cranking the starter for a while) will pull enough amps and create enough heat to melt the solder and kill the connection...

what do you think? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

if you have a joint that is getting hot enough to melt the solder, you have a shitty joint:fyi:
what about like in the dead of summer, and the engine bay is over 200 degrees and you crank the starter?

I do not know if the wires even get that hot, or at what temperature solder melts. I just want to know before I do something stupid.

Anyone else ever extend their factory wire?
