Explain - battery isolator

I need explanation about battery isolators and the current rating and what they mean vs how they work.

What do I need.

I will have 600amp current at 15.2 volts from my h/o alternators.

I have a battery under the hood and 4 batteries in the trunk.

My system current draw is probably going to be around 1200amps.
