OK I finally am grasping the EQ parameters on my Aline 9831. After 4 yrs of just using factory eq settings I figured out I was losing out on sound quality. How sad I am! Here are how the settings are labeled"

Band Freq:

Band 1 40Hz,60Hz,90Hz, Bass

Band 2 100Hz,150Hz,200Hz, Mid Bass

Band 3 500Hz,700Hz,1kHz,2kHz,4kHz,6kHz, Mid High

Band 4 10kHz,12.5kHz,15kHz, Center High

Band Width (Q)

Band 1 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 Bass

Band 2 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 Mid Bass

Band 3 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 Mid High

Band 4 1.0 fixed width Center High

I can then in turn adjust the freq level to my liking. My question is with the band width curve currently I am set at 1=1.0, 2=1.5, 3=1.0, 4=fixed. Is this a large curve or short curve? And what is recommended? I also am a bit curious on the Mid High freq I am at 2 k now but again not sure if I am losing anything. I had the HP & LP filters off but found better quality at 80Hz for both. I am trying to achieve a very rich sound at mid volume level with this EQ setting I have the freq levels all in the +. My second user EQ setting is a bit tamer so I can hit the high end of the volume without distortion. Any input on better understanding the curve would be great!! Thanks:

The 9831 has a parametric equalizer which allows you to set the width of the curve. For each of the bands you can set the width. For a wider width, select a lower setting, 1 while for the sharper width select the higher number, 3. Thus if you wanted a thick bass set it at 3. I had the 9830 which has the same settings and I simply put the width on the middle settings. As far as centering the frequencies, I set them at +2 at 60 (sub) -1 at 200 (to take out the muddiness) +2 at 4hz and +1 at 10Hz for the highs. The goal would be to keep the settings as close to flat as possbile to avoid adding distortion when you increse the levels too much. I would definetely set the filters as well, I did 80 for the low pass and 125 for the high pass filter. If you set the HPF at pass you run the risk of blowing the speakers as all the lows will go through them and could damage the low end. Let the sub handle the bass.

That's why I really dislike the "Bass Engine" I love Alpine, but I went ahead and bought a seperate EQ. You may find that a seperate EQ will be much easier to adjust to your preference. Sounds like you already know that though.

So, you couldn't understand the EQ and bought another?... or am I missing something?
