Yes. Messing with the RCA's when the HU is on or it has power will cause an internal micro fuse to burn out. At least that's what I hear is the exact internal problem. Also could be a trace on the board burning out.

Damn Pioneer whining got on my nerves, so I went ahead and did it.

Sun went down and didn't have time to install it back so I will tomorrow.

Will edit the results in tomorrow.

Err, is it? I think it's kinda pathetic on Pioneers behalf. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Good on AJ if he solved his problem with it though.

I kinda wish I would've kept my old pioneer HU to see if that solution would've helped.
prolly...

but its soo ghetto...

Is this all Pioneer models, or just a certain few??

I just did pioneer 6900ub head unit, jbl components, alpine amp all at once, and I can not figure out for the life of me where this engine whine is coming from???

It better not be this brand new deck with about 2 hours of use on it so far.

i did the last 2 to my pioneer 3800 after the wrapping of the RCA's with bare wires didnt work. the seperating of the rca's from the power wire completely eliminated my engine whine

i think it is kinda shitttty on pioneers part. i just had to do that to a new deh 5900 in my girlfriends jeep. it drove me insane trying to figure out where the whine and pop was coming from. i spent a couple of hours moving the grounds and testing with different rca's, then i found this thread. i never had any problems with my alpines and noise. i hope the new avic d3 i bought doesnt have this same problem. if it does im going to take it back and wait for the alpine w205 to come out.

Then I don't really seen the need to run a ground directly from the alt, but given your situation, it can't hurt.

Sounds like a ground loop, especially with the hokey ground. I'd ground to the body, do the big three. Run a ground from the radio to the amp's...
