Electrical requirements????

I'm installing a system in my Durango and need help making my electrical system adequate. I already have the stock 160 amp alt., and was thinking about adding a Kinetic 2000 up front and a Kinetic 800 or 1400 in the rear. Do you think this would be enough for a Hifonics BXi2006 and a Hifonics Zeus ZXi4406? I'm thinking about 2200 RMS total...........

What year durango? I only have a 130amp in my 97 dakota. Hence the reason I'm buying a new HO. Of course the second battery in the rear isnt going to hurt, but I would just do the big 3, put a 2400 under the hood first. I dont think you'll need a second battery.

wow...I haven't come across many vehicles with stock alternators bigger than 150 amps.

the Big 3 is a must! More than likely your stock charging wire is a thick stranded 8 awg wire...hardly the best for electrical transmission.

If you don't have many electrical accessories (off road lights, winches, electric fans etc) your power load should't exceed 70 amps even with the headlights on.

to calculate your system power needs: add the fuse values of all amps involved. this is the most power your system will ever draw. with a 160 amp alternator, you should be able to easily support 80 amps to the sound system (roughly 1000W) Your system will usually operate at around 20-30% full power unless you're playing test tones.

bottom line. 1000-1200W system would be no problem on your alternator.

So do you think I'll need the second battery if I put a Kinetic 2400 up front and do the big three in 4 or 2 gauge? Again, 2200 watts rms is a good amount of power.....

forgot to mention its an '06 Limited with the upgraded 160 amp alt. instead of the 130......

for 2000+ watts, i'd suggest upgrading the alternator to at least the 250 range. A second battery might help but you'll need the bigger alternator to recharge the battery when it gets drained....otherwise bad things will happen.
