Electrical Problem

I have a 1995 e36 BMW M3 and a current system of a JL 500/1 and a apline head unit, along with after market speaks and subs. Anyways my problem is serious dimming when i turn the sound up which abviously the electrical system is weak.

i know you guys don't like caps but does anyone know where to get a after market alt for my car? ANd how much power would it need to put out? Thanks.

I would say get your alternator rewound instead of getting a new one. I believe it's a lot cheaper liek that. and it all depends on how much electrical stuff u have in your car. I'm not 100% sure on this, but someone will correct me if im wrong. Go into your fuse box add up all the fuses add the power of your amp and thats how much you amps your alt should be putting out.

I would try and figure out what your total system amp draw is, and then get the proper Alt for that amount of draw. That's how i would do it.

you may want to start by upgrading your main wires....alt to battery, ground, things such as that.

then look to the alternator..

would upgrading the wires do much? and that would be a pain in the ***. BMW bat's are in the trunk. Thanks.
