Ok guys here it is, please read on.
This following sound system was installed by a professional back in 2006 on my 2007 Chevy Tahoe. The store is no longer in business since 2008.
Head Unit: Eclipse
EQ/DSP: Eclipse
Speakers: Eclipse 6 1/2" and tweeters with crossxover
Subs: 2 Alpine Type R 12''
Amp For speakers: Eclipse PA5422 4 channel
Amp for subs: SoundStream 2 chan bridge to 1 chan
3 months ago my front tweeters just burned down. The strange thing is that my music was not even playing loud (around mid volume). I smelled them tweeters getting roasted, also my amps wasnt even hot. i just started my car and in the next couple of block they went bad.
Next day I dismounted both front tweeters and tested the cables and they were still good and working. (tested with other speakers). So after that I was playing my music loud with only with two tweeters left (the rear ones) But as soon as I went high on the volume icould smell that burning cable kinda smell. But I was like OK, if the amp or anything else is going to fail just BE IT! lol...
Nothing happen and that burning smell dissapeared. NOW after weeks I came across and finding out that my Eclipse Amp cuts out at high Volume 70's (max is 80). This never happened before!. So I tried to test speakers one by one and still the amp will cut out. So I took an Amp from my other vehicle which is an Alpine v12 (bought years ago). And still it will cut out! So i was like "The problem isn't the amps!"
I disable my subs while testing and swapping speaker Amps. So i was like the battery must be bad. It is a 2 year old Optima red Cap battery. So I swap batteries and still the same results. But, I noticed that i was playing the same song while testing all this crap. and exactly at 0:22 of that song/beat more instruments come into play and right there is when the eclipse amp cuts off my lights dim, my battery meter goes to the left WHILE the subs still playing loud!
So I was like " what it could be, could it be the alternator?"
So this is what I found out! That my music only cuts out while my Engine is running! So if I stop the engine and play my music loud it will not cut out at all. Even if I just turn the key forward for the Head Unit to turn on it will still not cut out! It cuts out while the Engine is running ONLY!.
When I have the engine running and run my windows up or down the lights dim alot. When the engine is not running the dim a little.
P.S.- I took it today to best buy and another shop and they just told me that is strange that they will need to spend some time and check what is causing that. And of course im trying to save some bucks by figuring this myself. They charge $80 bucks an hour and for that problem it will take them at least 2 to find out THEN the time to fix it.
Thanks in advance !
