btw, i just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!!!
meh

Geico was actually going to be higher priced for me, so I'm stuck with Progressive. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

i guess that those quick to give them praises are equally guilty:)
indeed

it's quite hilarious that so many of you are quick to denounce this sub when i doubt any of you have heard it. i've used eD's products and, while i would never say they're the best, i can't really complain about any of them.
oh, and any of you that are over 18 and think that saying "eDuh" is funny really should reexamine your sense of humor. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Im not seeing any denounce how this sub performs. Are you? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Wow, enough already about ED. How many of you even had their products and were lied to. Well i was, i had the e15a flat cone and two 16ov2's. I will probably not buy their products anymore but i've moved on. You guys need to get over what Ben did in the past and just ignore the company period.
If, by ignoring the company you mean forgetting that they are crooks, and letting new consumers fall into the same trap because Im too lazy to warn them about these crooks.... guilty as charged. Ben has never owned up to anything he does, yet we are suppose to be good little boys and girls and just move on, forget about it. Im guilty of informing fellow car audio enthusiasts of a manufacturer/owner out there that likes to prey on the less knowledgeable/experienced of us. I wont let that happen, to the best of my abilities. if you consider that me being guilty of something, so be it.
Its amazing, a company comes along with such crooked ethics, and WE the consumers who warn others about it, somehow are turned into the bad guys. Whatever.

We where asking too much with a 15" flatcone. I don't think anyone makes one.
Oh, so we as the consumers are at fault for Ben making a cone that wasn't feasbale? I suppose it was the consumers' fault they never got refunds too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
BTW, PPI was the first one to use that nomex/carbon-fiber flat cone, and they made one in a 15" version. It never had breakage issues. So much for that theory huh?

funkin audio makes them, that one comes to mind right away.
but they were smart enough to put an actual conical cone behind the nomex.
Again, PPI, to my knowledge, invented the nomex/carbon fiber cone later used on eD subs (am ong others). It DID come in a 15" version, and it did NOT have breakage issues. Of course, it was designed for a speaker with substantially less cone excursion (the PPI Pro), and hence had problems when added to a different design. As per usual, Ben didn't do his homework, and his poor loyal customers are the ones who paid the price. What a swell company.

i thought the PPI was a corugated paper cone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

i might be mistaken on that though. and the funkin woofers use the exact same honeycomb nomex used on the Ed's, but like i said, they have an actual cone behind them, its more like a huge dustcap that spans to the surround. the funkins are actually SPL oriented woofers too, which kind of suprises me that they would choose that cone. even with the extra support, the owner of the funkins asked me not to touch the cone too much because he was afraid it would break //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Ed did not use carbon fiber in their cones to my knowledge, they may have been told that it had carbon fiber, but i know of several companies that were mis-informed by TC sounds about what they were actually getting.

and agreed, ben didnt do his homework. the guys at TC said "hey this sounds loud and looks cool", and ben ate it up. so did a bunch of people...

Nah, the PPI Pro's were/are nomex honeycomb sandwhiched between two layers of carbon fiber. I have 2 of the old PPI Pro's sitting here in this room with me, trust me on this. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Beautiful cones btw, true carbon fiber look and feel rather than the fake looking stuff most ppl seem to use these days.
I was under the understanding the eD cones were the exact same design as the older PPI's. If eD didn't use carbon fiber, what DID they use? lol

I agree, even if you want the look of a flat cone, using a flat full-size dust cap behind a conical shaped cone is a much better idea. Very common these days as well.

Im really curious what Ben's actual background in the field involves. Everything I see coming out of his mouth is either out and out lies, or seems to be mired in delusional opinion based not at all on real world facts. Does Ben have any real hands-on or technical background to justify his position as a speaker designer? He cant even seem to reverse engineer his competitions pieces without it blowing up in his face... how can we possibly expect he is competent in coming up with his own designs or innovations? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Cheers.

they used a material called Nomex. which (like all polymers) is a fancy word for plastic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif . the only thing that made them unique/gave them their strength (but at the same time gave them some weak points) was that they had a honeycomb core, sandwhiched between two nomex plates. great in theory, but when you have the stresses that a cone goes under one part of the honeycomb is going to fail, and once one part fails, its all gonna fail.

then their brilliant "fix" for the next batch was to attach a piece of metal at the cone/former joint. it was better, but all it did was move the point of failure out towards the edge a bit more

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i must have seen a different line of the PPI's before, they did have some that were corrugated, didnt they? the carbon fiber sounds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Allstate FTW
Are you ****ing kidding? Allstate is the biggest joke of a company I have ever dealt with. Hell, I would rather be a customer of eD than a customer of Allstate. If you're with Allstate, just make sure you never get in a wreck, never get your car stolen, and pray nothing ever gets stolen from it. I was told by them that when my CD player got stolen that it wasn't covered because it wasn't the stock unit. Now, after the car was stolen, that I should have filed a claim for my CD player when it got stolen. When I wanted to file a claim for that as well, I was told I couldn't because the car had already been taken. Complete and utter bullshit and lies. Hmm.. actually, they sound a lot like eD.

I'm not sure how old this PPI is, but if you dig back say, 28 years, Technics did the flat honeycomb drivers - woofers and mids. Looked real high tech in the day and they charged a fair bit for them as well.

They too used a cone behind the flat honeycomb diaphragm. I recall it was aluminum. It was about half the size of the diaphragm and made the whole design resilient to the extreme forces we are so used to seeing. On a personal note, I can't see anything else working as efficiently as what they did.

should have filed a home owners claim.
my stereo is insured through my car insurance policy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . got a rider to insure it for up to $5k. cost me about $30/year iirc.
I did when they stole the car but they wouldn't go for it for the headunit theft because they said car insurance covers that. It was all a huge ****ing scam. **** insurance and **** Allstate.
