then again, this could just be a prototype, or something they just whipped together for pics. i do not believe that is the actual product, look at their subs now, there put together very nicely.

if youre going to leak prototype info to the public, you should make it VERY public knowledge that it is a proto. and even then it should be as final as possible... not some thrown together for testing crap.

and no offense, but ive seen enough of their products (both new and old) destroy themselves because of shoddy craftsmanship, and thats all i need to know their quality level. hell, several of them didnt even have to tear themselves apart, on more than one occasion they have sent out woofers that werent even magnetized...

Lets see here....first you say that JL is a "pussy company" for not allowing eD to take their patented basket.
Then you claim that JL is "scared" because for the price you could get two of eD's offerings.

You then claim that the W7 will get blown away by this new eD woofer even though YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD OR EVEN SEEN ONE.

So you HAVE used one of these drivers? You DO have experience with one to make your claims? Do tell.
Because if not, he is exactly right, and you have no come-back beyond 'are you done yet'. And we all see it. C'mon man, stop ignoring the facts in front of your face, you seem like a reasonable guy. if JL had a whopping 40+% failure rate, and had a previous record of scamming people, and had horrible marketing full of lies and people who clearly dont know what they were talking about...

And in another convo i had with you, i said i feel bad for all those that got screwed over. And if they never buy another ED product, then good for them, still wont change the fact that they got fuxored.

But besides your feeling towards ED, do you think the sub is going to do good, forget the JL issue, or the way it looks. Its a simple question.

From what I understand, a company can reapply to have an already-existing patent extended. I am quite certain that JL will do this for all their patents.
I guess what I don't understand is why didn't eD approach JL with cross-license intent and simply pay the few bucks JL would charge for using said technology? It would have been much cheaper than investing $20k+ on a basket run only to throw them in the dumpster...

According to wikipedia, it looks like they get it for 14 years. It does not mention extensions. However 3M patents tons of things....I don't see them filing for extensions....and they have many times more money than JL.

its just that they dont make them well... or market them well... or maintain quality... or in some cases, actually ship the product...

Looks terrible and I have usually been a fan of how eD's stuff looks. Specs don't seem as revolutionary as they made it out to be.

I do believe they can IIRC. I read somewhere years ago that a person/company can hold a patent for as long as they live, so long as due diligence is used to keep it updated with the government. This does of course, come at a price.

A good reference for patents would be the mother-of-all-patent holders - IBM.

You say you feel bad for the people that got screwed, yet you do not hesitate to recommend others continue purchasing from this same person/company. That simply is not logical. There are plenty of other fish in the sea, the fact that you continue to chose this company as one the one you support and recommend, means you do not feel bad for those people beyond saying so in situations where I actually bring them up. Would you be feeling bad for them here and now, if I had not mentioned them again in this thread? Im skeptical, your earlier words in this thread indicate you've forgotten about those people.
How could I possibly guess as to the performance of that sub? I dont have one, and I dont know anyone that has beyond employees of elemental designs that have already proven they will lie through their teeth in order to hype one of their products. So yes, if I were buy into their bullshit, I could fathom you a guess. But as it stands, it appears as just a picture. Hell Ive seen plnty of pictures of subs that looked nice, only to find they didnt not perform nearly so well, or were not even working models at all.

Hence, if I was to say I think they'll do well, in any form, Id be bullshitting based on Ben's words/lies. If I was to say i think they'll fall on their face, Id be bashing them via the 'blatant hate parade'. So YOU tell ME, what could I possibly say about this thing? nothing specifically. but I can say eD has never been an innovative company, they have always been a company that is catching up to their competition (this new 'supersub', their 'butyl rubber' mat, etc).

And now that its been found they weren't even capable of coming up with their own design without attempting to steal someone elses first (at leat for the cooling, who knows what else), why should we expect great things? I would expect great things from an innovative new design hitting the market, not a design that's been changed due to being found to be an illegal copycat of another design.
