Ed's New Sub Vid

you guys are picking my posts apart. I never said improper materials being used, I said that they are not doing materials analysis. as in FEA (finite element analysis). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finite_element_analysis
for the price theyre selling this stuff, i HEAVILY doubt theyre spending time and money on researching how their product behaves before manufacturing.

I have no grudge with eD. A bunch of my friends run their subs and are super happy with them because of the price they paid.
No one misread that. How exactly do you know that no FEA was used in the design of that surround? I don't know that a competent surround designed for 4"+ p2p could even be done WITHOUT FEA, and as I indicated before, I sincerely doubt that that you had much of a valid basis for making this claim in the first place.

It would seem, based upon all that you have said thus far, that the only reasons you deduced that they didn't use FEA were:

1) You think they ordered parts randomly out of a chinese build house catalog

2) The surround dimples at high excursion

3) (deduced) If a surround dimples at high excursion, it must not have been properly designed using FEA.

Conclusion: ED's surround was designed without FEA.

Now neither of the above reasons which you mentioned in this thread, prove or even suggest your conclusion to be true.

Cmon Nick, you say that like Polypropylene is an uncommon cone material. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Well i guess it'l flex before it shatters...instead of just snap like a pop can //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You conveniently forgot the biggest reason of all, that i stated on my last post... which is the Price Factor.

Let's rewind behind the issue of whether they are intentional or not. The dimple is there because surround material cannot comform to the travel to which is subjected to.

Why? Because the thickness and profile (shape) of the surround are not conductive to the type of movement it is subjected to.

What is a dimple? A dimple is 1 more movement that the surround is subjected to, therefore, 1 more thing that can go wrong. Whether the dimples are planned or not, the fact that they are there means that the way they act will have an effect on the movement of the cone.

If 1 dimple changes shape or dimension then the whole balance of the cone is thrown off.. and there goes your SQ and over time, there goes your speaker. There are speakers with a 4" peak to peak excursion which exhibit no dimples under full excursion, for example a 13w7.

No FEA was done on the eD sub. I dont need to do more than just look at the video to deduct that. No engineer on his right mind would let that surround hit the market after putting it through cosmos.

You're looking at it too much.

A driver that is dimpling at high excursion is also producing SPL well beyond reference level; distortion will be barely audible, much less the minute difference in the surround.

Look at what things cause noticeable differences in sound, or what some perceive as SQ: primarily BL non-linearities, IMD, and frequency response.

Have a look at some of the work that GedLee has done and think you will agree that freaking out over dimples in the cone during high excursion is a bit of an impulse reaction.

lol. You are an idiot man. You don't have any idea what you are talking about and you are just making yourself look dumb.

The fact that you mention the W7 as an example further proves my point. The W7 uses a WIDE roll surround, NOT a high profile surround. Therefore, it isnt going to dimple. Unfortunately you werent smart enough to figure that out.

Guess what genius, there are actually quite a few well designed surrounds on the market that dimple, the av2 just being one of them.

Congratulations on demonstrating to everyone in this thread that you truly haven't the faintest inclination as to what you are talking about.

So who did the FEA on this you??
I thought its common knowledge, that ben cant design a speaker for his life.
Hmm...So somehow that claim proves no FEA modeling was done?

You CANT make a surround like that without having some FEA modeling done, whether ben did this directly or contracted it out, it pretty much has to be done for that kind of surround.

hey guys the massive cw12 had some pretty bad surround dimples when it was in excursion. that is a good woofer. are you gonna say it has a bad design???? the **** dimples have nothing to do with performance. analyze it all you want. if that cone is staying straight with its movement its not gonna matter. it is a high-roll rubber surround. wrinkling is to be expected. that is the end of the story on the surround. now attack the other parts if you want to. i know nothing of the other parts on this woofer, but i know that surround is not a big deal. if it was foam, it wouldnt have those wrinkles, but it would have more cons than rubber.

whoa on the insults man... youre taking this way too personal. The fact that i mention the W7 doesnt discredit ANY of my statements no matter what kind of surround shape it is.

go sackride your asian-manufactured, asian-built hashitashi pieces of shit if that's what makes you happy. kinda crazy it took you 13 days to come up with that response and even then its weaksauce.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Sorry bud, I don't browse the caraudio.com forums every minute of the day. It's uncommon that I'm even here 2-3 times a week, let alone more than once in a day. Just admit the fact that you lack the technical knowledge to back up your claim. I already proved as much, you just merely aren't capable of figuring that out. You don't know what you are talking about, I'd suggest that you stop speaking before you make yourself look even more incompetent.

Now you even claim to know the buildhouse for the driver parts! That is very entertaining. I must say, ignorant people certainly do make me laugh. Perhaps you should be a comedian instead of pretending to know something about audio equipment?

You really don't wanna try and butt heads with me on this topic. You're out of your league. Give up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

P.S. Big Pun is awful. Try listening to some real hip hop, not that you probably have a clue as to what real hip hop is either...

Clearly needs more cowbell.
My thoughts exactly.

PS: I can't post on ICIX either... and I've never posted there before. Upon registration I couldn't post from day one. Thats a little weird. I was going to post my review of Edead V1SE(2) a while back but couldn't do it. I suppose I was pre-banned since I'm on all the "other" forums or something?

You havent been able to disprove anything from my last post. except the fact that i mentioned W7 and your little anus puckered up immediately. The rest of the information i posted you threw out the window and completely ignored. -how convenient.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

at this point youre just standing holding your 2" long penis saying you know more than me and that youre better than me but you havent proven nothing to me except that you know the W7 has a wide roll surround.......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

see you in 15 days Napoleon........
