Dude.... Did I Get RIPPED

what is the sub rated for? like ohms, wattage, and all that?
if you tell everyone that then they might find the problem... did you hear it before you bought it?
I don't know much about the sub except that it is a Diamond and a 12 and a D3

i hooked itu p to my alpine, and it was alright bass (not very much) and the guy was like my amp made it hit much harder so i was like ok and bought it

Ground is directly connected to battery, not my idea, but the guys at local shop did it (said it was chill on the bmw when i questioned) Wiring is not very thick, but it was adequate for my alpine amp...
Here is info on both amps:

Box is Sealed (don't know how that would make a huge difference as i am getting basically little bass)
Uh... so your positive and your negative BOTH come off the battery? Yeah, that's gay. Ground the negative in the trunk. Also, in bimmers, don't they have a hell of a lot of insulation between the trunk and the cabin? That may also account for some of the loss. And uh, find out what GAUGE the wire is. 8awg is worthless and best left as speaker wire.

Gay????? Or possibly a problem that might warrant the failure of my sub to produce much bass.... GAYY!?>!?!

The gauge on the wire how would htat effect it much, i really dont see that making a huge difference... like i see htis happening i go buy some new bigger gauge wire, hook it up and OH! still the same sound and OH! im out another 30 bucks

First, some BMW's have the battery in the trunk, so running the ground to the battery may not make that much difference, and second, if it is in the trunk, 8 awg wire will be fine. Both amps are only 200-250 watts, so their is no need of larger power wire.

Take a DMM, and set it read resistance, usually labeled with an omega, the symbol for ohms. Touch each lead to the terminal cup on the box, red to red, black to black and see what the measurement is. Depending on the ratings of the coil(s), it may be wired wrong. If his amp plays louder, then I would say that the gain on the alpine is set lower. Both amps are mono amps, and should be making the same amount of power. The H/U setting shouldn't matter, especially when you consider that one amp is louder, with the same H/U settings.

If you don't have a DMM, pull the sub out of the box and take notes of how it is wired, and what the model number of the sub.

Ok so i did alot I did the DMM first... and with resistance i got about 4.7 does that sound right?

Now for the pictures... This is startign to look promising because i don't think it is wired right but maybe....

Also it says dual 2 ohm sub... this thing weighs alot

play a 50hz or so sine wave and see what the output voltage on the amp is

what does you amp do, 200w @ 4ohms?

um, ok...... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
