dual 4 run like 0ga?

why not go by the strand count?
because strand count is an indicator of flexibility, not current capacity. you would look at the cross sectional surface area to find the amount of copper in the wire, which would indicate its capabilities.

for instance, the cross sectional surface area of 1/0 is 53.5mm, to get that equivalent, you could use two runs of 3g, four runs of 6g, so on, and so on. all the measurements i used came from here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_wire_gauge . the cross sectional area of the wire tells you the amount of copper in the wire, letting you know its current carrying capabilities. it doesent matter how you get to your desired cross sectional area, you can use as many wire runs as it takes, the current will be devided equally among them.

and to answer this question about the "rule of thumb"...

http://www.repairfaq.org/REPAIR/F_appfaqk.html#APPFAQK_009

section 17.3 - "Each increase of 3 in the gauge halves the cross sectional area. Each reduction by 3 doubles it. So, 2 AWG 14 wires is like one AWG 11."

you can make 1/0 fit, trust me... once its in, it wont be noticable, i dont care what kind of vehicle you are talking about...
but yes, you can double up the wire to carry some more current, but remember your weak points... all of your extraneous connections are current hinders. they may be slight, and most likely insignificant. i would still sugggest just biting the bullet and running the larger wire.
I did and it was. I had to pull it back out. I couldnt get my carpet to sit right with it in. and I did a total carpet removal before I ran the cable so its not like i was trying to fit it in just along the edge. I looked for any place and nothing would work in this car. So its not a matter of not wanting to aspend the money it literally wouldnt allow my carpet and panels to fit back in place.

right along the edge of the carpet, next to the trim pannel. or even underneath the trim pannel. trust me, you can do it and be non-intrusive if you know what you are doing. and if you removed the entire carpet, it was probably the way you put it back in that made it noticable. and even if you can notice it, and no one else can, then so what?

nobody mentioned how many strands a 0awg wire is compared to 3 4awg wire
80
yes we did mention that, and we also mentioned that strand count doesent mean anything at all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif . read my previous post in this thread, it answers everything that you just mentioned. including the fact that strand count has absolutly no regaurd to current carrying capability.

I dont see how to run it under the car. manifold runs along wher i would have to come off the battery.
i'd go around it then, doesn't seem too hard as long as you have enough wire without going in a strait line

tried it the shape of the car wont allow the trim to fit back in if i do it like that. Ive run 0 in other cars fine this one is just a *****.

well, seeing as i have no personal experience with the car, i guess i cant tell you what you can and cant do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i still maintain it can be done though... oh well, sorry we couldnt offer that help. you do realize though that two runs of smaller wire is going to physically be more wire to hide though, right?

yeah but its the gerth causing the problem, if the 0 guage was split in 2 it would fit because I would leave a gap between them. it's just too thick and I cant get my carpet to fit right, I dont know if its the carpet or what but it wont sit back in correctly and therfore the trim wont go back in.

What a noob question...jk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I have actually wondered the same thing several times, just forgot to ask. I just assumed 2 runs of 4 eualed 1/0, 2 8s equal 1 - 4, etc.

My theory has been proven wrong.

Good question though......
