dorm setup question

Did you not read my post? The woofer and tweeter both handle 50WRMS. Why would you give them 3x their rated power?

wouldn't you add the RMS ratings of the 3 drivers to get 150 rms? its 2 mids and a tweeter all wanting 50 rms, so all together thats 150 per side, right? never combined my own speaker set, let alone messed with home audio, but my understanding was 3 drivers rated at 50rms each, the math would be 50+50+50=150rms

perhaps make it simple and just use car audio in your dorm? get a 12volt converter and use an hu and amp.....you wont need alot of wattage to fill a dorm room.....your just looking for complaints against you that way

technically, yeah you could run 150WRMS since they each would be splitting the wattage but seriously I doubt you'll need it. Quality > Quantity. Thus why I recommend Denon, Onkyo, Harman Kardon, Marantz, etc.

If you want more around there, get a Pioneer receiver. They typically put out around 120WRMS @ 8ohms. But in a dorm, 50W is plenty. I got a ton of complaints when I got my little stereo here (two 3" pioneer speakers each off ~100W).

My "home theater" consists of JBL L1 (Fronts..oldddd but amazing), Infinity Entra center, Infinity Entra sub, and some in ceiling rears (forgot brand) all running off a Pioneer Elite 5disc DVD changer and Pioneer reciever. The JBLs are getting ~100WRMS and believe me, they are PLENTLY loud.

My dorm setup is a Pioneer home theater in a box deal...DVD player and reciever plus 4 matching satelites and center. I'm only using two of the satelites as fronts (no space in here for all) and a JBL Venue 12 sub. The little Pioneer's don't sound great but they get loud easily off the 100WRMS. I'd like some real shelf speakers (JBL/Infinity, Paradigm, or something like that) but it's all money money money... Just something to think about...

so does anyone know of a good receiver that would fit my needs? like 150rms x 2 channels @ 8ohms? this figure can be in bridged mode also. I need a pre-out for a sub too
would like to keep it under $200 if possible
check shoponkyo.com they have some pretty good deals on refurbs from time to time. they have pretty good reviews too..

You're not going to find a sub $200 receiver that you can bridge channels on. Unless things have drastically changed within the past year, 99% of home receivers arent bridgable

Find yourself a cheap 5.1 receiver and just run it in stereo or direct mode. If you add a powered sub 100-150 watts per channel to the mains will be plenty

60 watts from a Denon, Onkyo is cleaner and louder than 100 watts from a POS Sony

Look on your local cragslist or if you are interested PM me. I have two receivers I am not using that would work for you
