Background:
2001 Chevy Tahoe w/ factory sub
New kenwood KDC-352u HU and hooked up a kenwood kac-9103d mono amp(discontinued, got for free) and 2 12" rockford subs(punch he & punch z both kind of old) in a sealed box(ik two different subs in same box stupid but also got them for free so not complaining). Wired a switch into remote wire so i can turn the amp on/off when i want. Stock door speakers.
Sometimes randomly i will turn on my truck and go to listen to music and nothing will come out of the door speakers but the subs will play the bass tones. Usually won't happen if i have the amp switched off before starting the truck, sometimes still does though. Seems like it happens if i start playing my ipod before the truck is started, but not always the case. Seems very random. Also though i noticed if i have my truck not running but the power on, the speakers will play fine but only when the amp is shut off if i turn it on they will continue to play for a few seconds and then the speakers will cut out and only the subs will play bass notes.
I found a fix for when this happens i just shut my truck off for 30 seconds and restart it and it seems to work fine but can be a hassle when in a hurry. Just trying to find the cause.
This never happened before replacing the HU and adding the subs and also doesnt happen when i unplug the rca's going to the amp from the back of the HU so it doesn't seem like a speaker issue to me. Maybe the amp is drawing too much power from the battery so it only sends signal to the amp and not speakers? Im lost on why this happens.
Any ideas?
