Sony HU shuts off in tuner mode

It works fine without the antenna plugged in but i want to listen to the radio and it just beeps and shuts off when the antenna is connected through my adapter. I already tried not grounding to the factory ground and making my own and not having a ground at all. I'm starting to think it might be my adapter. what do you guys think? my car is a 03 chevy tracker btw
