door help. mids.

i have some type r s17 comps in my door in my 09 civic in factory location. the sound from the mids actually sounds like its coming out from the edges of the door. ( the window sill, door hinge, opening of door) instead of out of the grill. ( this is part of the door.) will just some deadener help solve this issue? or should i cut out the grill hole and put the type r grills in there place some how? i will hopefully do some deadening in the future because they would be a lot louder with deadening. but will deadener or the new grill help the most? or is there something else i should do instead? thanks
