I have two early 90's 12" sony subs. 200watts max. I put them both into a 3cuft ported box pushing them over 600watts, and nothin happend. They hit pretty good. They were 8ohms. So, maybe the old shit was good, i dont know, but i just thought i would test the shit out.

well lets see here...i dont know of any amps that put out 600 watts at 8 ohms. so say your 600 watt amp puts out 600 at 2 ohms...that means it would put out around 150 watts at 8 ohms.

Well, from my experiences with sony, there's nothing wrong with it's power handling, it's that it sounds like crap. My friend bought a 10"(one of the new ones(not the alum though)) from circuit city. At any listening level, there was a buzzing sound coming from the surround, and it wasn't the amp, he's got an alpine M200. To say the least, he returned it a week later.

yeah, but the red ones, the one my friend got, buzz like hell, sounds like shit. well, at least the new ones do, the old ones might not.

the new alum cone sony's are good for spl but crap for sq imo but the old sony subs like the original red ones with normal surrounds without ripples are the best ones to get although they are crap

A friend of mine has two sony xplod 10's with a kenwood 700 watt amp in his trns am, i listened to it a few weeks ago and well let's just say i will never think of getting any of their subs. Ive heard other peoples systems and that didnt have sony subs and his just sounded like shit compared to them.

Go ahead and try too , Its not as easy as you think ! I had one of the 12" red sonys I bought at wallyworld to have some bump why my brahma was out getting repaired , I had this thing a orion 800.2 and could not hurt it , It slammed and never whimperd !

thats not true at all. My friend had a best buy system and then got a new system for christmas, so we decided to blow his sonys and man did they go down quick. We hooked up his 300 rms subs to a jbl 1200 and watched them go down in a blaze of glory...

the point is sony sucks at car audio. their head units lack features, while looking pretty cool. Their speakers are just awful and their subs are horrible. some of their amps are ok though.

in the world of car audio where for every component you buy you have a choice between hundreds of products why would you choose sony? Ill give you their not as bad as some people make them out to be, but they are definately worse than what a lot of people make them out to be.

Hmm that weird 800plus watts at least to one and I couldnt hurt it and 1200 watts maybe on 2 and they melted ?? , I dont know Ive been in car audio for a long time probably longer than most of you have been alive and I thought that little sony sounded pretty dahm good for the $60 paid , I have heard a lot worse for a lot more money ! Has alot to do with the correct box size install and good clean power !
