Decisions decisions. Got 3 of the big gap Sig motors, 1 small gap, and 2 NEO motors. Currently running a single 12" with a big gap motor to get me by (it's quite loud actually). I'm just waiting on some coils in the mail to do up the neos as 15's and I have some special softparts waiting for the big gap motor (waiting on a basket in the mail).

Will update builds here, but may be a while before I have a new box for anything since it's getting rather cold lately and I don't have a ton of time for woodworking.

PAP cones, coil from Ssackett. Need to get this in a bigger box, but it's scary loud in my test box.

Doing up another one later this week when I get some more push terminals and have plans for the big-gap motor when a special basket comes in.

Nice man. I've always wondered, when building a sub how do you know how much of the coil needs to go in the gap when glueing it to the spiders?
AFAIK center of coil lines up to center of top plate/gap. Has been working well and is consistant with anything I've pulled apart so far from manufacturer. I've heard that being off a cm or two one way or another can help, but it's trial and error if it does.

how much does it cost to build a woofer like this?
Total cost 500$ to 525$ (depending whether you buy a new basket or used one and clean it yourself and shipping on parts. I try to buy a lot of parts at the same time to save on shipping). Most of the cost being the motor. Could have done this with less expensive softparts for probably 480$ but I wanted them to look a little special.

PAP cones/dustcaps are sort of pricy, but they do look sexy, are fairly good quality, and PAP are really nice guys to deal with and sell softparts directly. I've used beefier cones, but I find that lighter cone gains me a few tenths on the meter at my peak (55hz). For lower tuning heavier cone and coil has worked better.

Nice subs. PAP are good guys

x2 on lining up the coil...you can measure the height of the top plate and coil, and mark the coil to line up the height in the gap.

Metered 149.6 on the windshield and 150.7 at the kick (sealed) today with this in a POS box 3 cube tuned to 40hz off Sundown 3Kd. This should really get down when I build the second sub and put the pair in a proper box....just waiting on push-terminals.

Will post pics of the box at some point. It's pathetic LOL. This sub is just obscenely loud.

Pics of the box. Actually it's very solid with a full 8 footer of 2X3 for bracing, all corners 45 degree, double baffle and double port walls. 3 cube net tuned appx 40hz 65 cuin port

Box sits subs and port up at the moment since I'll need to move batteries and amps to get it pointed back like this. Pointed back sounds optimum, but up is still frighteningly loud.

Will meter at some point, but I know the Sundown 3Kd doesn't really do anything special at 1 ohm nominal. The Fusion 4K i have coming this week on the other hand should really get down at 1 ohm.

Also worth mentioning, I'm going to scrap this box in a week for a project up at my farm in Maine so this is only a temporary. I'd double wall the whole thing if I intended on keeping it, bracing seems to hold up OK, but these subs are very very strong.
