dog problem?

my dog loves to kill squirrels. havent got a cat yet...... if your worried about your dog attacking your kids, maybe you should find a new home for the dog.

actually killing things isn't the problem. it's our yard, trespassers of any species are fair game in that yard. should i watch her closer around my kids?
Typically, this is the nature of this breed of dog (and most dogs in general). They will always carry a hint of the wild with them and I would not worry about it too much. My akita's will kill anything that goes in the back yard, but are very good around people when we are there.

I honestly think that they feel they are doing the job that is assigned to them. You are not there, an unwelcome party comes into the back yard (this is there assigned area to protect) they kill it.

I would be careful with the kids in the back yard just as a standard precaution (even not knowing this current situation) as sometimes things happen where a dog will feel dominant over a child and if the child takes a toy, treat, etc., you could run into a problem. Mia, my female Akita is a very very calm dog but one of our friends was over and her daughter kept poking Mia in the ***. Finally after about 20 minutes of this (and me saying please stop to the girl) Mia decided that the only way to stop this was to put the girls entire arm in her mouth, press down ever so slightly and make a large growl. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Although leaving the couch would have been a better solution the little girl stopped and all was fine.
