Does ported just sound this way or?

So i was planning on going with a sealed 12 for my next build. Because i love how my JBL sounds on the low notes but the higher bass just dosnt hit. So my question is do ported boxs always have trouble hitting higher bass? (when tuned to 35Hz) Or is it just my box design? Or just my JBL. The box is the correct size for the sub. 1.3cu after port @ 35Hz

Just wondering what ide like better really. A sealed DCON 12 or ported SA10, i just want a wider range of Fq's to hit. My lows are nasty, but rock music dosnt really hit lol

Also if i go ported ima need a new design lol my current box gets mad port noise on high bass. When i say "high" bass i mean like upper half of sub Fq's. My LP is at like 80-100Hz, so like 50Hz and up ***** *** in my car, i think im go out there with some test tones to see whats really hitting and whats not.

Ide be spending 150 for a new sub either way. I just want most bass to hit, it dosnt have to destroy anything. Although i do enjoy how nasty my lows get now, so if that could stay ide be mucho happy

moderate gain above 60hz, serious gain below 60hz and almost flat response.

For the Rock/Rap listener. It is also one of the fastest response enclosures I've heard rock is just nuts on it....well really everything is it's the best of both worlds with only minor drawbacks...

soooo thats just a funky box? im confused, ide need to see it in a cab

That also looks like a pain to build and im only looking for 1 woofer. From what i saw that supported 2 or 4

hmmm that is interesting... Might be good for my next enclosure. What are the drawbacks?

Just make your box a cube larger and raise your tuning up to 40-45hz. Set your subsonic filter to protect your woofers and you'll be good. You'll be sacrificing some lows but you're not a hair trick monster anyways. Box volume really affects the peakiness of your enclosure. The smaller it is, the peakier it is and the fewer frequencies it plays.

Yeah what I'm saying is get 2 woofers and build one...if you have a smaller trunk I'd get 2 tens if you got a bigger one I'd get 2 12s.

Heres a pic of my WO in my Cavy....I actually build one then had to cut it in half to get it in...its 2 separate pieces.

He's got a single cab truck bro

draw backs are not completely flat response so not quite as accurate as persay a perfect 4th order, However it is very flat for the gain you get. It's really a great all around design.

Another drawback is it doesn't get as dirty with the lows as a properly ported enclosure will get, but again it does get some serious gain below 60hz so it does keep you happy with the lows it just doesn't destroy them like a ported will.

well my best friend had one in his truck.....if you don't ever want anything behind the seats this will destroy the earth in a truck but take up all your space and you will need to do a 10inch model.

not to mention if you do you need to find cover for it unless you got a security system...kinda sticks out like a sore thumb.

I think your options are what Ecrack suggested, or build a sealed, or a 4th order wall. My idea is a little of the best of all the worlds, but it is a rather large enclosure and hard to fit in a truck. You'll just have to figure out what sound you want and what fits out of those options.

Maybe talk to an enclosure builder on here and see what they have to say for the room you have and the sound you want.

I learned a long time ago though that I'd rather have a killer enclosure, than one that fits nicely and sounds decent, but that's just crazy ole me. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ABC BOXES!! COME AND GET IT!!!

^^^ ABC box FTMFW. works like a low tuned and high tuned ported box at the same time.

You could also contact someone like PWK Designs. Someone who understands the accoustics of your cabin can help design something that'll play flat from 30-70hz. I did one that did on accident last month.

Have you tried just aiming your box differently or moving it around? Lots of times that will dramatically impact response.

Only one place to put it in a single cab..... I moved the port from bottom to top. That helped alot, i may just need a sealed 12 for the responce im looking for

put 2 sq 12 subs in sealeds made for like around 1cu ft. like some Daytons. I know exactly how that sounds right behind my seat and it's plenty of output for me and does get low, but I can't live without the gain down low. For rock though I think you'll be really happy with that some nice kick drums hitting off some seald boxes really do sound good.

Yeah, that limits your options. Can you port to the side? Have you tried higher tuning?
I could port to the side, i just got alot of noise last time(possibly box design, or plastic tray box sits in)

35 is the highest ive tryed
