Does my box ****?

yee!
I have a 15" TC9 in a 4 cuft box tuned to 32 Hz, off a Nine.1 and it seems like it should be louder. It is only hitting 124 dB (on a Radio Shack SPL meter, lawl)

Sub is back, 2 4" aeros to the driver side in an 06 civic sedan. Should it be louder?

One of my ports has 2 L-bends in it to clear the magnet/basket, could this cause any problems? IIRC (box is out for the time being) the air from that port not being as forceful as the other straight port.

Reason I am asking all this is I feel like I should be getting more and I am thinking of getting 2 12"s BMs but I don't wanna waste the money if it's not gonna be louder (while still being relatively clean)

Can't use any number from that meter for any kind of comparison...get on a properly calibrated Termlab or other respectable sensor and then you'll have a frame of reference. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah, term pro? what's that $1,200?

Redo both ports so they are straight shots. That may help.

Also some other things to help us troubleshot are .. what amp are you useing, what is the gain set to, what is the decks bass eq set at and volume , are theses areos or just straight pvc, any pics of box in car, how far the sub is from the back and ports from the side ?

Those are just a few, sure there are more that others may ask.

dude, you sig sux. if i wanted to see a sister i'd go to the zoo
that's ****ed up...

anyway so I should get this "boomstick" and it is more accurate? yeah I don't have $1200 to get a meter sorry. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

just out of curiosity, what do you guys think would be louder (i know....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif) the 15" TC9 or 2x 12" BMs??

btw did I mention I love the General Discussion forum! didn't expect so many replies, especially not that fast.

Thanks for the help ST33M, and nice ava. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

I am using a Nine.1 (1200+ watts) wired to 1 ohm (sub is d2). gain is set to 1200 watts with a dmm using a -3 dB 45 Hz test tone. deck is stock (for now, w/ a cheap LOC) with all settings flat.

Yes they are the Precision ports on partsexpress.com... no pics of the box right now sorry but I can describe it: sub in middle of double baffle front. aeros on driver side, one on bottom towards the front of the car, one on the top, towards the rear (sub) side -- that one is the curved one. When I was designing the box I was thinking, keep the aeros as equidistant from each other and the walls of the box for "equal" airflow, but I forgot to take into account where the sub was going to take up. I thought elbows would be alright....... and it does sound good, just one of those things, I keep thinking hmm I bet it would be louder. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

stick with the TC9s
box might be a little small but its a nice setup otherwise
it's only 1 TC9, but thanks

actually its one of the ones teamquakecelica was selling last year or whenever that was.... he said the optimal box specs were like 2.75 cuft @ 28 Hz.

I guess I just caught the bug to try something new? I wasn't thinking the cone area was that much of a difference (~30%) increase but I thought the BMs were supposed to be really efficient (and sound good)

blah i think i will just get some more deadening and a better meter and be happy with it....
