Do you feel safer with a gun, or without?

I would feel much safer with something like a nice shotgun next o the bed while I sleep, but the state of Massachusetts won't allow me to have any so a good old louisville slugger will have to do for now.. Nothing compared to a gun but most crackheads breaking into a house usually are not strapped anyway.

Guys again...you have to look at what has happened. The risk ...yes for the majority of people who own guns, there are small number of exceptions... of being attacked, or violently robbed...is SO LOW compared to the risk of injury from angry family and friends.
Never know why people only focus on the fear of being robbed...and not hurt by someone they know with their own gun. It is like 30 times greater.
let me get this straight.....your saying buy me owning a gun....the risk of being robbed and hurt is less than me having a gun and my friend shooting me? now, yes it is greater only because the **** thing is there, but any FRIEND that would point a gun at me, let alone put there finger NEAR the trigger....is no longer a friend imo LOL

having a weapon PERIOD raises the risk of being shot than not being shot not having a gun....theres a ****ing gun there LOL you go to training courses, classes, and safety drills and shit to learn how to properly use them in a SAFE MANNER.

your view is retarded to say the least.

I know that the odds are that you will not get broken into. But if the situtuation ever arises, I am properly prepared.

IMO hand to hand combat is something you use when youre in the middle of a bar brawl. Or when swung at first. But if you do not know who is in your house, dont take any chances.

Blunt end of a stock to the jaw is just as painful once you run out of ammo. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I'm not 21 yet but once I am I am going to apply for my carrier's permit. The world is a crazy place and if it came down to my family or an intruder/burglar may god be with the man trying to rob me.

There is a pistol in the house that does not leave it's safe keeping, but it is there for protection if the situation arises.

Key point ... "feel"... me too man. But you are not.

I mean what safety reason would you NEED a gun at home. Look up your risk. See people have guns at home to "protect" themselves from fear....but then go drive a car with a 1000x risk of injury/death. Doesn't make sense on the basis of worrying about being hurt.

But other than that, I feel so much safer. Hell even my parents have a lil .22 revolver in the house.

Actually, hand to hand combat comes first before drawing your weapon. Unless in home invasion courses where your away from the point of entry...

Somebody comes in my house in the middle of hte night lurking around and I dont know who they are they got about 2 sec to Identify themselves before they have one in the abdomen, another 2 before they have one in the leg and another two before they have one in the head.

I understand what this Canadian is saying, and why he is saying it --- I think. Statistically more families with guns is the house end up being harmed with those guns than there are people whose ***** were saved.

But that does not mean that I should not have guns. Let's face it, I am much more intelligent and responsible than the average American. That's x 2 as compared to Canadians.

Dude...thanks...you are totally proving my point.

Okay one having a gun doesn't change the risk of getting robbed, wasn't saying that but YES the risk of getting hurt by your gun >>>>>>>> risk of getting hurt by a robber's gun.

But yea...that is it...see the other thread. Big friggin surprise...having a gun at home increases your chance of getting hurt by one.

The point is...consequently it does not make you SAFER by owning one. That is what people were trying to argue. The risk of getting hurt by a gun you own...is FAR greater then the risk of getting hurt by someone else's gun.

So if you are going to FEAR getting hurt by someone with a gun... so you argue you NEED a gun at home... why are you not FEARing the greater risk of getting hurt by a gun just by keeping one at home.

Distorted perceptions of risk and fear....that is all. As this and the other thread shows... it is not surprising owning a gun increases your risk of getting injured by a gun. But that is what people are debating.

x2. And sadly, the average american that buys a firearm will not receive any training nor fire as often as they should...

True. I was thinking in my case. I hear something in the middle of the night, the gun is loaded and safety is off. If intruder does not identify himself, there will be no need for hand to hand combat in my case. He will have some #1 buck in him before he gets close enough to me.

But I can see that there would be other cases where hand to hand combat would be needed
