so theres a jet ski in the parking lot at work. i swear it has been sitting there for over a year, probably close to two. no one knows who's it is. i would just take it but there's cameras that cover the parking lot.

here's the kicker, im in themilitary and this is on a military base. the mp's dont know the law and the base law center doesnt either. this is in nc btw.

would this be covered by state law, and what is state law on abandonedproerty, or military law?

any help would be appreciated.....btw the reason i havent checked with dmv, since it is registeredfrom 4 yrs ago, is i was told by someone that they cant give that info over the phone.

At our base, the normal police aren't allowed on base. However, I wouldn't say "oh, the MPs don't know the law, so I will take it"

I would ask around. 2 letter...if he doesn't help, you can go to CC.

Under no circumstances would I just take it.

whosaywho, i dont want a greenlight. im looking for no shit help. as in a specific law or place to find a law. if iw anted to just take it, i would have taken it by now. i mean it would literally take 15 sec for me to back my truck up to the trailer and hook it up. the fact that no one else has, surprises me alot.

twistid...i dont know. maybe i did. if so sorry for the double post.

flip...thats what has me confused. since it has to be registered udner nc, yet its on base, who had jurisdiciton? mp's dont k now, bse legal doesnt know. seems as if no one knows. online isnt much help which is why im posting here. and no base legal wont help to see if its abandoned, they told me to do all the "legwork", but how is someone who knows nohting about law supposed to find the info on the original owner out?

Sorry, had to jump in on this. Although it is a military base the state police still have jurisdiction in any case they choose. As for tracking down the owner, get the plate number from the trailer and go to the Provost Marshal office. They should be able to pull up the owners info. The istalation coordinator (IC Office) should also keep an eye out for anything that has been sitting for a long time and tow it if it has been there. They should have a impound/storage lot for storage until it is disposed of. DO NOT MOVE IT OR MESS WITH IT! It could cost you your rank for messing with it..
