See, my thing is the dude that saved for the entire summer of cutting grass, should feel good about competeing with his 12 cvr and JL 500.1, obviously he won't win any SPL trophies, but we should have something that he can be a real part of without being laughed at.

I would love to be inlightened, If you would share your thoughts;)
well one thing that has brought alot of strict rules and drama to the competition arena was World Records and Titles.

So my format would be a prize only class. There arent many trophies given out now and back in the day sponsors would give out prizes like subs and stuff.

So I would have my sponsors give out prizes and there maybe a district or regional championship but only against the people you see all year anyway. No season points, no big money entry fees, just fun.

Lol darn, what brands though?

Bob Perillo uses 9 15" T3 Audio TSNS subs and 18 SoundStream XXX6500Ds.

He does 168+dB

Steve Cook uses crossfire subs and Memphis amps in a bandpass and did a 170 dB

Scottie Johnson hasnt competed in years but I know he would use Power Master batteries.

doesnt make sense too. you can play a paintball tourney, and if you win you basically got to compete all weekend for free. not true with stereo competitions.
i competed for 2-3 years in meca spl.
This is the mentality that has killed car audio competition, IMO.

This should be looked at as a hobby.

How many people here play sports? Golf is a good example. Gotta pay for greens fees, equipment, etc. I don't think anybody on this site gets paid to play golf.

The same goes for a ton of other things.

I look at competitions as a chance to hang out with cool people and have some fun. I don't look to make money off of it.

The reason competition has slowed down is because of the cost to be competitive and the general state of the economy. When times get tough, you have to stop doing things that aren't necessities. While I love competitions, I'll choose eating over car audio. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

those guys must have some really good jobs to afford all of that.

Around here they are never laughed at , they are encouraged to get louder and better for the next show . Thats the way i see it around here . There are classes for them , its called bassrace or cash clash !

I couldn't agree more man.The whole point is to have fun when at these car shows and we should all be encouraging each other.

check my sig.....

used to compete ALOT... havn't in years.. looking for a new sponsor... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I used to. But no longer want too. Its not in my life anymore. I have alot of other things going on now days too.

But for me. There isnt alot of shows around my area anymore. Acto used to have shows all time with DBdrag and Usaci and Iasca. Did slapshows all the time. Was going to 20 plus shows a year back in the day now down to like 1 or 2. That have actual rules and classes. Now days not many comps come to acto drag strip. And when they do they charge close to a 100 bucks to get it. Im not really into it anymore to drive up to englishtown up in north jersey. Or go to maryland for dbdrags. Witch I wouldnt mind doing bass race.

Price of gas and the cost of batteries have gone up this past summer kindof took a toll too.

I agree totally, except for the fact that the intrest in CA has lessened in the last decade, IMO, I know it has changed but the intrest really seems to be alot less than back when I was in it ('90s) it isn't just the economy! I think the SPL game is out of hand as far at the novice or DIY guys go. I see the amout of guys on this forum that are intrested, but when I go to the comps, it seems like "crickets" compared to the intrest on the forums, even the spectators seem to be sparse.

Back when I first started promoting, I was living on Grand Cayman, and the population was 30,000. When we had a show, we had over 100 cars, and 3,000 spectators, and it was a 2 day event. I went to a comp. here in Nashville this summer and it was freaking depressing, there were the guys that were competeing and their sidekicks, I honestly wasn't sure if I was at the right place until I saw the lane with the TL and asked if this was a warm-up or something. It wasn't:crap:
