What keep_hope_alive says should be considered the final word. The man knows his stuff.I have helped on over a thousand threads and fixed dozens of vehicles that a disconnected battery would have prevented. My advice is intended to help people perform safe installations and minimize the chance for error or problems.
That is assuming someone executes every step of the install perfectly. But how do they get to that point? By practicing. Hopefully with the battery disconnected until they have reached the point of perfection. No harm at all I just think it an unnecessary step
don't get me wrong, i agree with most of what you've said. i don't want this to be a bashing session. it really should have just been a thread where people state what they do and no one comments. sorry i singled you out.Installer competency does not mean everything will work right the first time so the need to test wires with the battery connected is a real possibility. Metering wires for alarm or remote start installation is easiest completed when the battery is still connect however in most cases not impossible with it disconnected
