Do you all really disconnect the battery before every install?

Yes, I don't see why you wouldn't. I guess if you're lazy but it takes like 2 seconds to do

it depends on what exactly im doing, but if its going to be anything more than a few mins then yes.

Sadly, nor do I.

I'd bet 75% of the installers out there really don't.

For me, it IS the last connection I make.

I install everything and hook everything up first. The last 2 connections I make are the main power wire to the battery and the plug to the HU/factory plug.

Ditto...last connection i make when it is all said and done is the battery. it's like the icing on the cake for me.

Disconnect the battery? too much work, just disconnect the radio and power line fuse dur

Depends on what I'm doing, but usually...no.

I don't want to reprogram all my settings, presets and clock on my HU just to pull some power cable for an amp. I will, however install the fuse holder without its fuse first. -So the cables near the battery are secure rather than dangling.

I don't listen to the radio at all in my car. just cd's and an external hdd. I do have my EQ settings written down in the event my car loses power (which has happened)...5 minutes later i'm right back where i left off.

Never have for anything that does not require the disconnection of an airbag or airbag sensor and never will. I dont see the point when one can simply not have 12v wires exposed.

burnt wires, heat welded grounds, blown fuses, hard shorts (which can cause other systems to malfunction including alarm), and dead/drained batteries I see in OP's future with that attitude, but hey some of us like to learn things the hard way.

Personally I don't see the point in risking all that vs pulling a couple fuses at least.

always, it's the first thing I do whenever I'm messing with any electrical on any car.

this will not and has never happened for it does not take a genius to secure 12v wires
