ive read on here many a time that type rs "come alive ported" is that the case i mean is it THAT much better...i mean i know that porting makes a big diff with alot of subs but apparently this is an insane difference from what i read.... i going ported and want to know what to expect they are 2 seperate boxes and they are tube ported at 2 cubes tuned to 33hz... powered by my hifonics 1505d they are at 1.4 cubes sealed right now a piece... how much of a difference can i expect?

1 type R ported definately is loud enough for the average person. i recently upgraded to 2 and i personally think they are too go**** loud haha //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif . i have to turn down my gains a lil lol.

what size and tuning is ure box.... just got my ported boxes in and im not impressed to say the least.... maybe u can help me figure out what went wrong.... they are 2.0 cubic feet and tuned to 33hz but they dont sound any louder than my sealed enclosure... gained sq on the lows..... but not alot more....

how much port area?

4 inch pvc at 13.5 inches long... and this is in a 2 cf box and i am supplying 1500 watts... so it should be fine you would think..... is it possible that i wired out of phase?

A 4 inch port is only giving you 12 square inches of port area. You should try using two, or idealy three of those ports instead of one. They will need to be a new length it might not fit in your box. I have had my 1242d type -r's in alot of different boxes. My first one was 1.75ft each chamber @32hz with three 2" ports per chamber - thats only 9 square inches of port per sub. Then i built a box for one of them at 2.2ft@34hz with 32 inches of port area and it was almost as loud as the previos setup with the small ports. Redesigning your box for more port area will get you some huge gains over your sealed setup.

haha im an idiot...... i figured out the problem they are loud as crap now! me and my buddy went out and checked the wireing and they were wired out of phase cuz me and him were into too much of a rush to get them in and hear them last night..... i guess that is what u get when you dont take ure time... martin care to explain that port thing a little better even tho i fixed the problem.... i have always wondered why when you have more ports does each one have to have more length..... i dont get it
