And if he threatens to not give back an amp, or "looses" it, he's legally liable.... PERIOD.

 
He says the mosfets are coming monday (he origionally told me last wednesday) so who knows.

How many different mosfets do amplifiers use and why doesn't he have them in stock?

I'm not an expert at board repair but most amplifiers use one a few different FET devices IIRC. If this shop does amp repair on a large volume I can't imagine them being out of stock on a common replacement part. If anything they should have FETs that meet the requirements, sorta like a generic prescriptions and name brand prescriptions. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

 
not in anyones defence, but alot of the failures are higher logic boards (the little board with the microchips on it vs. the main board which has very few) .. these are usually only available from the manufactuer of the amp, which in 70% of amps these days seems to be korea...so the chances of anyone having those on hand is little to none.....which is what is wrong with my PBX amp.

but yes, there are about 20-30 common FET's in use, and their crossover equilivents....like generic brands for IRF

 
well, got my amp back today FINALLY. Joe did the repairs free of charge and didnt even charge me for return shipping. it seems to be working just fine, im gonna give it a couple days and see how it does. it did take a LONG time, far too long IMO, but its done now, its back and functioning for now, if anything changes, ill let you know

no, he didnt charge me, not because of how long it took, but because of promise deadline missed after promised deadline. hes really a good guy all in all, im just very impatient and didnt like being told it would be shipped out "x day" when it obviously wasnt. but to make the situation right, yes, he didnt charge me

DAMN!! Lucky you! My amp has been there and back and back again since October. The last time I got impatient, I got the shaft and the amp sent back to still blown //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.
