DO NOT go to CIA Engineering for amp repair

dB-r and the guy who runs it Chris, are awesome. he is a great guy and knows what he does and explains it in lamen terms well enough for people to understand.

i would recommend dB-r to anyone

Me too. I also forgot to mention something I find a bit funny, Joe at CIA recommended that I send the amp to K&B or to Amp Repair Center and even gave me their numbers. Thanks for referring me to the two crappiest repair facilities. . .

fyi, nobody really knows the story behind K&B and assumes sergey ****ed over everyone.

Sergey was not the one who ****ed people over, he had employees **** him over. he lost sveral thousands of dollars and an unknown amount of amps.. He has placed repairing on the back burned until he gets back on his feet.

also, see above for a very reliable repair center

Wow, I just realized this whole thread was about the Treo 1500.1 that CIA sent to me to repair. I had it going in about 1.5 hours. Not sure why they couldn't fix it, it was a simple problem, standard stuff. I think they had the amp for like 6 months or something. **** man, I know have been backed up with amp repairs because of moving (almost caught up BTW YAY!) but 6 months on a amp that didn't need exotic parts or something... I don't get that.

I will admit, there is 1 item in my shop that has been here for more than 6 months, but only one, and it's from someone here, but it's not an amp, it's an EQ, and I am sorry, but I just couldn't figure the thing out so I sent it to another shop that can repair radios, eq's etc... sorry but this is an amp shop, we don't do head units or eq's or anything but amps.

Also wanted to add, that I think Sergey (KB Audio)wasn't the one who screwed over everyone. From what I know, I can't tell all, but he is a good guy, who was just dealt a bad hand. He is a sharp amp repair tech, I can tell you that.

I make sure that dB-r doesn't employ anyone without a criminal background check and possibly even a credit check beforehand. My new helper is a mechanic (diesel truck) that just wanted to work on electronics, and turns out he is really good, and fast. And I have known him for more than 10 years now.

I think manufacturer contracts are what keep places like CIA alive. They are just lucky. Maybe one day dB-r will get the Maxxsonics and American Bass contracts. Who knows. I know I like being in this business, and I want to do everyone right, and be honest, and so far I think I have done a good job of it. I don't plan on changing that any time soon either.

Thanks, everyone for all the business!

Chris

I Just spoke to a represenative from Maxxasonics today.

I was told that due to the fact the Model MM4000.1 is no longer in production that they no longer have the repair parts in stock. They are working with a distributor over seas to build the parts but it is taken longer then expected. I was informed that there are several people that have been waiting over a year now and that once they recieve the parts that all the amps will be fixed.

what I do not understand is how a company can sell a product, with a warrenty without having the the parts needed to make the repairs if the situation should arise.

Personally I dont want to wait a year for the parts anymore, I want a refund. Am I legally entitled to a refund or do I have no choice but to wait for the amp to be repaired?

Because they really dont give a shit. Once they make the initial sale of the amp, they've already made up 2x what it cost for them to build it (usually, especially from a big outfit like maxxonics). So whatever grief or cost it is to the customer, they could really care less.

So, here is the e-mail i sent Maxxasonics today. Lets see if this get the ball rolling.

Clearly a reasonable time frame for repairs has elapsed. While I feel for customers who have been waiting for a year, I am not willing to be one. You can see that it is mutually problematic to offer warrante coverage on products you no longer support.

I propose two options as solutions

1) You can return me the purchase price of the amplifier

2) You can provide me with a substitute amplifier of equal or comparable audio performance.

If you cannot or will not comply to either of these options, I will have no choice but to contact my local Office of Attorney General consumer affairs office to file a complain for full refund.

So snoop, expand on the Amp repair center problems, cuz I dealt with him during a moving time for him and would just like to hear what happened with you. He repaired an hk802sx for me and I sold it, has been working fine for the user ever since.

Before you post, please note that I am not defending at all, I had a good transaction with him, but also there were some interesting events during it.

Just lookin for your story here.

lol, its been so long ago I barely remember clearly. I sent one or two (I cant remember now) VIsonik 4000xd's to them for repair. Got em back months after calling 30-40 times. They shipped it back and as soon as I put power to it with no load on it, the amp smoked. Being that it took so long the first time I ended up fixing it myself. There is a long thread somewhere on here about me making the mods to the motherboard after I got it back from CIA. Basically they took me for a ride when at the time I had no time to fix it myself (which is why I just wanted to pay someone to mess with it, im not entirely fond of fixing amps). Once the amps were in their possession I was powerless //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif They did something similar to one of my teammates (who by the way, is the original poster of this thread). With such shitty service, I cant see how they stay as Maxxonics repair facility. Or at least, they must dedicate 100% of their time and efforts there first, and the other amps on the side are just for show //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I really dont care about them anymore, just hope no one gets shafted by em, ya know? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

EDIT : now that I sit back and think for a few moments, I remember what REALLY pissed me off now. The chick who answers the phone all the time kept putting me off and off as I had mentioned before. But one of her excuses was that "we're having trouble getting the IRF9640 mosfet's for your amp". This might of worked on someone else, but not quite so well on me. So I ended up ordering the FET's for them! I shipped em to them in the box with one of the other 4000xd's. I should of just told them to give me my amps back then...but I needed them for a SPL event that month so I was strapped for options. Now that you've reminded me, im a little more pissed off now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif ..... not really, its old news.

My brother sent two of his Hifonics amps to CIA and what a mistake that was. It took over a year to get them back and one wasn't even fixed. We'll never buy Maxxxsonics again and won't ever send anything to CIA for any reason.

snoop, clear ur pms sir.
cleared.

As far as Amp Repair Center, they too had at least one of my Visonik 4000xd's for a while and sent it back to me non-functional as well. I totally forgot about that. I even found an email where scott at ARC suggested me send the amp to CIA....talk about a clusterfuck
