Do low end kicker speakers ****?

I thought kicker was a pretty good name in car audio. On the advice of a car audio dealer I bought some kicker 6.5 for my doors. They were either dx 65 or 69. Something like that. Anyway they sounded ok hook up to a 65 wrms 2 ch amp. But if the bass was set too high they popped. Well the amp was old so I decided to upgrade. I bought a power acoustic ps4-600. It's supposed to put out 70 wrms per channel. Well it sound ok but it's not as loud as before. I have the gains set as high as the speakers can take without popping. I know I should have went with a component set up front but I was too cheap. I'm looking around for some now. So is it the amp or the speakers?

Sounds like you need to adjust your amp. Look at the gain setting tutorial and stop trying to get a ton of bass out of those speakers...if you want bass then get some subs. I've never had personal experience with those kicker speakers, but you shouldn't start pushing your speakers until they make popping noises.

in my experiences most 5.25 to 6.5 inch speakers put out like no bass...... thats why i got subs!!! with the high pass signal set at 80Hz they sound great anythign lower and at high volume they get distorted from the bass....

Thanks guys. I had to adjust the low and high pass filters. The fronts were getting a low bass frequency that was causing them to distort. It sounds alot better now but I'll still be looking for components up front.

Well it sound ok but it's not as loud as before.

well youre problem is the power acoustic amp, i mean you said it youre self is wasent as loud as before.

I agree it sounds like more of an amp problem(settings)...but the front stage, plays the front stage and vocals...don't ever think they are made to play lowered frequencies...just won't sound right...each speaker, throughout a car, should play the freq. it was designed to play in, to make the car sound correct.
