I certainly feel like one. As soon as I start to think I'm starting to pick it up with this stuff, I fail miserably.

Here is my question audiophiles,

I was running my subs on an Infinity Beta Digital 300, and before that a Visonik 800 watt. These are 2 channel amps. I popped on my JBL 1200.1, this is a mono amp. PLEASE... explain to me, would this change the resistance of the subwoofers? (I'm thinking of it as bridging a 2 channel amp). Also, how exactly is it a mono amp? It has 4 speaker terminals like a 2 channel amp. Why did I blow my subs, WHY!?

What's funny is, i have a mono amp, and it's marketed as such, but in the manual it says "stable to 2 ohm stereo"

I run it at 2 ohm mono anyway

Again, this may sound newbie-ish, but what exactly is the difference. 2 channels vs 1 channel, ok. How exactly would you describe a channel though? I'm so befuddled. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sick.gif.b1847c8dabbfeeddbcf1a78052249e10.gif

4ohm Mono = 2ohm Stereo

8ohm Mono = 4ohm Stereo

1ohm Mono = 0.5ohm Stereo

etc

Stereo is 2 separate channels, left & right. Each "channel" is actually a separate amplifier circuit, and has its own RCA input and speaker outputs. Mono means 'one'. A mono amp has only one internal "channel". It may have more than one speaker output just as a wiring convenience. And it may have two RCA inputs, but they both get combined into one internally.

Actually I think the 1200.1 has 4 RCA's so you can combine fronts & rears together too. I dunno how many output terminals it has.

"Bridging" a stereo amp wires the 2 outputs in series and creates a single (mono) output with higher power. The load impedance ratings usually change too.. like if a stereo amp can run 2 ohms in 2 channel mode, it's usually rated 4 ohms in mono mode etc.

The 1200 is rated for 2 ohms but is 1 ohm stable. Maybe it's just too much ballz for the subs?
