My installer told me that i should ditch the jl cleansweep and just go with a High low converter which would save me money and give me the same effect....

is this true? He said i should sell it and i'll get about 250 back and he'll sell and install me a high low converter for only 30 bucks.

It really depends on what you really want from your system. The one thing I can think of, that would be a reason to keep it, would be that it defeats any equilization built into your stock head unit. Why did you buy the Cleansweep? Do you know what it does for you in a system? Or did you buy it not understanding what all it does just because someone told you that you had to have it? Not trying to be an a$$ there. But if you researched the product before buying and knew why you bought it you would be in a better position to decide if you want to keep it or not.

i brought it because my friend that works at circuit city told me its a good product to have if i want to keep my stock deck...

but now, the installer told me that a high low converter is better than the jl cleansweep, and it'll take away my hiss problem, and that its cheaper too. He said he'll sell it to me and install it for me for 30 bucks.

So you have a hiss with the Cleansweep installed? I haven't installed any of the Cleansweep units but I wouldn't think it would cause a hiss. Most of the newer OEM head units have built in equalization. This usually includes a sharp roll off of low frequencies as the volume increases. A simple line out converter isn't going to correct for that. This means no matter how much amp and sub you install your bass will fall off as you turn up the volume.

Not trying to sell you on keeping the Cleansweep, just trying to tell you what you may be trading off if you decide to take it out. There are other OEM integration units out there. Rockford and Audio Control are a couple that come to mind for now.

It really sounds like you may need to do a little more research in order to make an informed decision. I have seen some good conversations on the Cleansweep and other units like it on the forums at Carsound.com. Also check out the manufactures websites to see what features the integration units offer.

hey on the cleansweep manuel

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/11196.pdf

on page 8. it says

Using the OEM head unit's volume control instead of the CL44Idsp Master volume control.

If desired, the OEM (factor) volume control can be used to control the master system volume as long as you accept the following compromises:

a) the factory volume control will not control the aux source volume. Only the CL44Idsp's Master volume control can control the aux level.

b) there may be noticeable increase in system noise (HISS)

they actually spell the word hiss too

^^ i think thats the problem? well not really a problem, just the option that they went?

you think this solves it if i use the CL44Idsp's Master volume control instead of my oem volume control?

I don't know, but, sounds like it may be reasonable to think that could be the issue. Did they not insall the master control knob? Was it a JL dealer that installed the unit. If so I would be pissed.

The JL Cleansweep will convert the analog signal into a digital audio signal with a 24bit resolution. It will then correct your factory EQ using 30 bands/channel. It is leaps and bounds better than an ordinary LOC. I would keep it and try an trouble shoot the hissing problem.

Get a David Navone LOC. Way cheaper, and no stupid external knobs to deal with. I have a TL, trust me on this. The Navone converter is excellent quality, and I have no noise or hiss issues. I Cannot express enough how important it is to get the NAVONE converter...a crappy one will not yield good results.

Make sure that you install it AFTER the signal is amplified. If you have questions, do a search on http://www.acurazine.com

does it work as good as jl cleansweep?

x2, the cleansweep is a good product. As for the hissing, sounds like an install error. You shouldnt not having any noise. The cleansweep is the best product you can get if you want to keep your stock deck imo.

i am keeping the stock deck...so i should keep the cleansweep instead of a loc?

Well according to the guy from JL, the Acura TL only adds a bit of mid bass eq, and IIRC it was within +-3db throughout the spectrum. Apparently the MDX was much worse with +5DB swings and would perhaps warrant the EQ benifits of the Cleansweep, but MOST folks in the TL are just using the Navone converters, and set your bass control at -1 or -2, it takes care of the midbass bloom issue. If Anyone knows what they are doing in Car Audio, its David Navone. I am using it with great success. I have Boston Pro 6.0 comps up front, powered by a 25 to life punch 75. For subbass I have an Infinity Kappa Perfect DVQ 12 in a 2.2 net tuned to 28 HTZ with 700 watts going to it. I love the way it sounds.

I guess to answer your question- NO, you do not NEED cleansweep for the TL.

my volume also goes up and down, my isntaller told me that most high end cars have a speed sound sensor installed....where if i drive faster, the volume will go higher... he told me i can go in to my setting and disable it....

I have never heard of something like this, does the tl have that?

does yours do that chester?

I dont like line level converters, and if your factory stereo is externally amped it would be much better to cut the inputs and solder some rcas on them before the stock amp.
